For you guys running spacers...question

I'm interested in the add on spacers (with replacement lugs), 15mm front / 20mm rear. Only to pull the wheels out in the fenders a bit. I'm NOT interested in dropping the car (been there, done that through the years). Car is a 2012 6MT with Sport pkg.

My question: After adding the spacers have you noticed any adverse handling effects? Reading on the 350Z forum, it seems that many guys have reported adverse effects after adding spacers (ie increase in tramlining, "squirrley" handling, less precise turn in and steering, etc.).

Thanks!!

m4a1mustang 01-21-2012 06:15 PM

No adverse handling effects with a 15/20 combo if you use quality stuff like H&R and install properly.

If all you did was throw 20mm spacers on the rear and left the fronts alone, yes, you'd probably feel more understeer since you're widening the track at only the rear. 15/20 is close to even, so you won't notice the extra 10mm out back in street driving.

Remember those old Pontiac commercials? Wider is better. ;)

haitech 01-23-2012 02:01 AM

If done correctly no problems will appear.

I went with H&R DRS 15/20 with no problems.

marrim 01-23-2012 01:09 PM

I have no issues either 15/20 H&R

Do you need new lug nutz when you add spacers?

kenchan 01-23-2012 01:53 PM

you can use the stock lugs on stock wheels with or without the spacers. :)

There are two types; the stud replacement type and the bolt-on type. The bolt-on type are really easy to install. The stud replacement type are a little more involved.

Here's a link to a DIY for the stud replacement type.

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...t-spacers.html

Also, here's a good thread on spacers overall.

I went with 20mm Ichiba bolt on spacers at all four corners and have never experienced any adverse side effects. I have taken the Z well up into the triple digits many times as well as multiple canyon runs and it is nothing but smooth and stable.

Not in a car where the 2010 had a recall due to drive shaft failure at 120mph+...

Then again, 370Zs are going through a near recall now on the steering. LoL...

So, just saying. I have 20mm all around. 100+% safe.

Haha... that's why the V6 Mustangs have a speed limiter.

I don't mind spacers at all... just not bolt ons. You're introducing 5 more points of failure... imagine the stress that the spacer is under during a spirited road or track drive.

I will always use a stud replacement type, but that's just me.

V6 yes... but still... a mustang. You wont see that on a Z... just a national steering outage. Lmao

:p

Well, you won't see it on the Z because the Z doesn't have a budget model. :icon17:

haha dont let them scare you off. bolt on spacers will work jsut fine. i've had mine at a track day since 15mm bolt ons were added to the rear of mine and it handled like a champ

Just make sure you check them before and after each session if you are going to track...

Hell, even with the DRS you need you be inspecting the parts often. A wheel is not something you want coming off your Z while flying around a corner or heading into a braking zone! :icon17:

darionlear 01-23-2012 04:29 PM

20mm.... all around

Now the GT, Boss, and GT500 have no problem running at speed :D Hell, the 2013 GT500 will go 203 mph! :icon17:

What? I hit that.... *with 20mm spacers* and faster than a gt mustang without breaking a drive shaft like a v6. LoL

And? What does the Mustang (V6 no less) even have to do with spacers on a Z?

okay, I'm sorry. It was my last one... for the record though. I kept on topic stating that high speeds are attainable, even with spacers. LoL

Sorry, sometimes its hard to gauge the sarcasm via text. No doubt the spacers can hold at speed, but I still think my concern about the additional points of failure is valid. Just something to keep in mind and like I said regardless of bolt on or stud replacement you should regularly inspect the condition of your spacers.

Agreed to the point that any car pushed to its limits need to be inspected. Tires, suspension. Ect. My slavers were hubcentric and bolted down with thread locker... I'm confident enough to drive with my daughter. I can appreciate you value to attention, but if done right... no worries
