Stillen J-Hook Rotors with Metal Matrix Pad fitment

So during the Black Friday sale that Stillen had I bought J-Hook rotors and they included the metal matrix pads for free. I finally got everything installed including my TEIN monoflex coilovers and really am enjoying the setup. I have discovered however that the metal matrix pads don't appear to be using all of the J-Hook rotor surface …see photo. I called Stilen and was assured that the metal matrix pads were paired to fit both the calipers and rotors. Anyone out there using different pads on J-hook rotors that utilize more of the rotor surface area?

Nope, I have the same setup and looks exactly the same. I dont think its an issue though, might just be the design of the rotors. I'd be happy if it happened to be the case that we have more surface area than before. More heat dissipation!

Okay, thanks! Which pads do you run for track days …Carbotech?

Both the rotors and pads are the same size as OE.. so nothing has changed from your OE pad coverage..

What is different is we zinc coat the rotor for rusting/corrosion.. so you're seeing the pad sweep area versus the treated area. Better than rust!

Not exactly the same setup here, I just got Stillen's D&S rotor and Metal Matrix pads, same thing, I thought the pad did not utilized everything. You'll ses in the photos below.

This is due to the casting chosen. There was a choice between a casting that provides a better pad match, but the heat dam was not as good as another very similar casting. The larger heat dam left a small area that gets ground along with the friction face (or firepath) to give the illusion it is too large for the pad.

As a minor tradeoff, the improved thermal capacity was chosen over the slightly better appearance of the rotor that had a better pad match. Since the rotors are zinc plated for corrosion protection, the small unused area is protected. Stillen's Brake Division will typically choose performance and longevity over aesthetics, but we all prefer both when possible.
