Its a baetch to get the compressor spanning 4 coils off once the springs are uncompressed because the top arm of the compressor is wedged in the coils pretty tight. Its doable though.

Yes this is a big issue, I had to wedge my top of the clip up as far as I could to get more coils in to compress enough, otherwise, like you said, it did not compress enough to remove them.
