DDMotorsports: Sneak Preview - BC Racing ER Coilovers Installed!!!

DoubleDownMotorsports.com has been working with BC Racing Suspension to develop and test 370Z specific coilovers! Well, it has been hard keeping it quiet for this long, but Pete from BC Racing flew out from Florida to Las Vegas yesterday to personally install and check fitment on the first set of prototype 370Z spec BC Racing ER Type coilovers on our project 370Z!

BC Racing will be making two types of coilovers for the 370Z. The BR Type, which is their main, flagship coilover will feature 30 way adjustable dampening/rebound and ride height adjustment. The second type, which we have on our car is their top of the line, brand new ER Type coilover. The ER Type will also feature ride height adjustment separate from spring pre-load, an external reservoir for added cooling benefits and performance, and independently 30-way adjustable compression and rebound! The off the shelf BR series will be geared towards the daily driver who may occasionally want to take their Z to the track while the off the shelf ER series will be geared towards the track junkie who still wants streetability. Of course, custom springs rates and valving are also available for each for those who really know what they want. :)

ER Type Street Driving Impressions:

I LOVE THESE COILOVERS! These are perfect for the direction I am trying to go with my 370Z. Initially since they are geared more towards track performance with stiffer spring rates and dampening than the BR series, I thought they might be a little harsh for everyday driving. I don't think so at all for my taste. I am sure if you are looking for 100% luxury/comfort you will probably think they are a bit stiff, but for the driver who appreciates performance they are more than tollerable for everyday driving. I had my compression/rebound settings set at a tad under 2/3 stiff as well, so going full soft I think would be even more comfortable for those who want it.

Its hard to tell a coilover's true performance capabilities on city streets (especially the exceptionally greasy/dusty ones we have in Vegas), but I can tell you that they are a VAST improvement over stock. The car is much flatter through turns at any speed, and the car feels very confident on big sweeping freeway on-ramps at 110mph (allegedly ;) ). There is much less dive under braking as well. I cannot wait to test these on the track!

Now, onto some quick pics. I am going to raise the rear up a tad more adjust the rear camber, and do better photoshoot soon.

And the money shot...

All in all, the test fitment and test drive was a complete success and they have now been given the go ahead to start production on the 370Z specific coilovers!

The ER series coilovers will be custom orders only and will take 2-3 weeks and can be ordered right away through DDMotorsports!

The BR series will be a production item and should be in stock in about 30 days! DDMotorsports is taking pre-orders now!

the BC coilovers were nothing but trouble on the G37

M.Bonanni 03-01-2009 12:18 PM

How so? They have been nothing but awesome on my Evo IX and so far on my 370Z

shumby 03-01-2009 12:26 PM

all kinds of rattle issues. and it was everyone. they were bad about getting back about fixes and they nevered work. that said i believe it was rattles not handeling that was the issue. sorry not trying to trash your thread if you want I can delete my post just shoot me a PM

No, thats fine. Whatever the problem was on the G37, they have apparently fixed it for the 370Z.

shumby 03-01-2009 12:31 PM

cool good to see. like I say guys were not complaing about the preformance just a rattle and clunk it made all the time. But if they got it fixed these are ok coilovers and well priced.

M.Bonanni 03-01-2009 12:33 PM

I have had BC BR type on my Evo for a few years with no issues and its only been a day on the 370Z, but so far so good. Whatever it was might have been G37 specific. I will ask Pete from BC Racing about it next time I talk to him and hear his thoughts. But from personal experience (which is really the only stuff that should count these days) I have had no issues. I have talked to a lot of other people who have had them and loved them as well, but have never met anyone with a G37 who has had them.

RCZ 03-01-2009 01:23 PM

They are in FL? I can track test ;) haha

The car looks great Mike, lowering really does make a huge difference in the looks. I cant wait to get mine on coils!!

M.Bonanni 03-02-2009 10:41 AM

^^Yeah they are in Casselberry. Lowering it only makes me want wheels more than ever now though.

MaximumPwr 03-02-2009 12:04 PM

Dang, looks great Mike. How low is that exactly?

Thanks, not sure. I will have to measure. I raised the rear another 1/2" yesterday. I will take ground to fender measurements today now that its at the height I want it.

RCZ 03-02-2009 12:28 PM

And more pics!

well now that i am getting addicted to the whole buying stuff from DDM...how much!

Frick@DDM 03-02-2009 09:15 PM

Wheels!!! BC racing suspension is fantastic!

Namir 03-02-2009 11:31 PM

I wish the stock wheels came with more aggressive offsets. Drop + stock wheels = massive tuck.
Can't wait to see pictures with the adjusted rears and hopefully some new wheels!

coldblooded 03-03-2009 03:26 AM

is this the G37 setup or did BC make one specifically for the 370z? I heard rumors that the g37 suspension fits the 370 but the car dosen't share the same weight and wheelbase. Would that affect the over all handling and ride quality of the car?

No these are 370Z specific. The G37 coilovers will bolt up, but the shock bodies are too long so you can't drop the car much below stock ride height. Not to mention the different spring rates for the G37 vs. 370Z.

Yes, I do wanna. Really bad. Won't be those wheels though. I am saving my pennies for HREs. :)

Which HREs you planning on getting? :icon17:

MaximumPwr 03-04-2009 09:16 AM

Thinking about KW V3's myself. After talking with Doubledown for a while the other day he almost has me talked into coilovers. I did alot of reading yesterday on them. They sound like they are well made. Little pricey though.

Minicobra1 03-04-2009 09:56 AM

Ok, looks great! Well, if you want some pre-orders your going to need to post some pricing info :-) Also, I have heard of the problems some G37 owners have had with the noises, so please talk to them to see if they have addressed this issue with the new design.

Thanks :-)

I am waiting on some photos from BC of the actual product and then I will start a for sale thread with prices, but the BR series will be $999 shipped and the ER series will be $1850 shipped.

As for the G37 coilovers, they were originally offered with a metal pillowball mount, which is a little better for performance but the trade off is the possibility of noise. After the complaints, BC switched to a rubber mount and the problem was solved.

Not sure yet. I keep going back and forth between their Competition Series wheels or their Forged Monoblock Series wheels. :)

Sorry for my ignorance, but do you still need to get cambet kit for your coilover? When you lower it more than 1 inch..

You will need a camber kit with any coilover/spring that drops the car more than 1" on the 370Z if you want to get your camber back to factory specs. You don't have to buy a camber kit if you don't mind driving around with negative camber. Some cars, like Evos & STIs have adjustable camber plates on the top of their coilovers. Unfortunately , this is not the case with the Z/G platforms.

tvfreakazoid 03-08-2009 08:23 PM

Nice! But they seem a little to low for my taste.

import111 03-08-2009 08:32 PM

What are the spring rates for both ER and BR series?

They are height adjustable. You don't have to make yours as low as I did. :)

The standard "off the shelf" spring rates will be 10k/12k for the ER and 10k/8k for the BR, but custom spring rates and valving are available on both.

tvfreakazoid 03-09-2009 04:28 PM

Yes right. I was just making a comment. But any how it looked cool.

RCZ 03-15-2009 09:02 PM

I saw a set of BC ER coilovers this weekend...they looked a lot beefier and high quality than I expected! Really really nice.

klubbheads 03-16-2009 03:12 PM

I had BC racing 10k/8k on my G and loved them. The question is, is there defenate improvement on the handling department when you compare it to the stock suspension or its just a confidence builder?

There is a big difference, even on the street. The car is a lot flatter around corners and soaks up mid-corner bumps with much more confidence.

DannyGT 03-23-2009 03:13 PM

What would you say is a good balance with the BRs if you go custom, 10k/10k ? would that kind of put them in between them and the ER series ?
