Looking into a big brake kit..
 

Looking to get a new big brake kit.. wanted drilled and slotted rotors , with nice looking calipers.. don't really know too much about any brands. I don't track my car, just for street use.. thanks

Are you okay with no real increase in performance over the sport brakes? On the street big brake kits are aesthetic items. Not necessarily a bad thing (they do look awesome), but the performance difference over sport brakes will never be noticed on the street.

Personally.. mostly going for looks rather than performance.. but if you have any suggestions for a couple kits, one for more performance and another for mostly no increase like you said, I would like to hear it!

The reason that a big brake kit won't do anything for you on the street is that you won't be doing enough hard stops fast enough to fade the brakes. All you're really buying with big brakes is fade resistance. Even the crappy base brakes have enough force to lock up the wheel and trigger abs. Big brakes won't reduce your stopping distance, they just last longer before fading. If you want shorter stopping distances buy stickier tires.

All you really need are the sport brakes with good pads, rotors and fluid. That will cover you in 100% of non track driving. And probably 85% of track driving with a set of brake ducts.

Now if you have lots of money and are ok with dropping 3k+ just for looks (on a street car), go buy the baddest set of brembos or stoptechs your wallet can handle. Just don't expect them to be that much better. Hell, they may be worse on the streets if you can't keep enough heat in them. They're a track product, and that's the environment they were designed to function in. Not commuting to work.

You can get a set of takeoff akebonos for less than that. Look at the for sale threads here and I'll bet you could get out for $1k.

I bought a set of nearly new red Akebonos on eBay for $1100/
I think they were off of a wrecked Nismo.

They came with pads, hard lines, rubber lines and mounting bolts.

There were plenty of pics, so I could tell the shape that they were in.
I mounted them last weekend as well as Z1 stainless lines and they are perfect.

Frankly a set of eBay caliper covers is the easiest, cheapest way to do what you're trying to do.

I absolutely love my Alcon BBK

I used to think the same thing until I got my Alcons. They definitely perform better than the akebonos. I will say the cost of entry is not worth it based just on the performance difference for street driving but there is definitely an improvement.

You should for $6k plus! :gtfo2:
