There's height adjustability
  • The height at which your vehicle is held by it's springs.
There's compression adj
  • The force from compressing the shock.
There's rebound adj
  • The force of the shock going back to "normal."

Some coils do both. See notes in italic above.

I personally resisted in creating such a thread because of the many variables. :ugh2:

I'll hope it's very comprehensive since it's going to serve as the (Bible)

This will serve to educate those looking to go in this direction with basic specs.

It'll be stickied so its easy to find.

Thanks osbornsm :)

You need to organize them two ways.

Coilovers by brand with subsections for different models in the brand

Coilovers by features and options.

Also, You're missing ISC along with the different models of Stance and BC

dont forget details such as top mount type (rubber, pillowball), OEM vs true type, and thrust bearing options

links to damper dynos if available.

Also, I don't agree with your rebound and compression descriptions. Dampers are measured in units of (Force * Time)/Distance. They are used to control oscillation amplitudes by resisting force, not producing force.

Just to throw this out there, if you're putting $2200 for KW V3s (not the MSRP) then you shouldn't put the MSRP of any of the coils. Like I got my Bilsteins for much, MUCH less than that.

Also, I think it should include spring rates/type of spring (stock form)

Like KW V3 10k/9k progressive spring.
BC/BR 10k/8k linear spring.

gomer_110 07-27-2015 11:40 AM

AST 5200 series

2-way adjustable w/remote reservoirs
spring rate and valving per purchaser specs

$5,500

1. You're welcome.
2. I put prices according to Z1 and Tire rack (see disclaimer)
3. I will gladly update the thread with any formatting and content changes deemed necessary.
4. "Add categories" doesn't count as a valid change :p
  • What category
  • What should be in each category
  • What if something is covered in more than 1 category

Orig Thread Updated.

I created this thread as a reference for those shopping for coils. I did not reference my engineering textbooks when describing the nature of dampeners.

Doing my part.

Nice thread osbornsm.

Need to throw in Moton and JRZ. For sticker shock value. Custom Ohlins.

He has AST on the list. That's probably enough sticker shock for most.

Spooler 07-27-2015 09:38 PM

Don't for get custom Aragosta coilovers. 5k and 6 month wait. Pillow ball top mount. Side adjustment on rear shocks. 12K front and 10K rear linear spring.

Dcocci 07-27-2015 09:55 PM

BC racing BR's, and also all of their models, can be custom valved and custom sprung with swift springs.

Zoren 370 07-27-2015 10:52 PM

Can you define the difference between linear and progressive springs?

The advantage of a true type coils vs the Oem style?
