When I owned the 350Z and took it in for the checkup the dealer wanted to charge $250 for the service. I reviewed the service items before I OK'd it. What got me was they recommended that since the $250 service includes a fuel system flush that I should get the throttle body cleaning as well. I asked how much that would cost. That charge was to be and added $180. I went to the service manager and told him that I know exactly what a throttle body cleaning entails and asked why it cost so much for something that amounts to nothing more than swabbing a Q-tip with carbon-tetrachloride around the internal wall of the throttle body. I told him that even the fast-lube places do both the flush and the swabbing for about $75.00. He said "Because there are two of them in a Z". I said even given that $90 / throttle body was alot of money for alot of nothing more than removing the hose off the throttle body and doing a 2 minute swab and with no fuel system flush.

I went livid and raked their asses over the coals for the kind of price gouging they were doing. The guy eventually threw in the throttle body cleaning for free. I ended up getting the fuel system flush, oil changed with synthetic and the throttle bodies swabbed plus the regular checks for $190.00. And even that was about $90.00 too much.

I can't even fathom how these dealerships can look their customers in the eyes with all this kind of high-balling rubbish that goes on.

You know I know for a fact that alot of people here do not patronize the quick shops like Jiffy or Pep Boys. But I have to say that I took my shelby Mustang and Terminator all the time to these "quick" kind of places. If you stand there and talk to these quick service mechanics about appreciating their care for such kinds of cars you would be surprised how they will go out of their way to treat the cars with care, respect and are happy to service them since its a rarity for them to see such cars on a regular basis. And it costs about 1/3 less of what the dealer service whores charge for the same services.

It never hurts to change the oil in between scheduled services. I have always had turbo charged engines and have got into the habbit of changing the oil and filter every 5000km (3100miles). It's a bit of an overkill for the Z but it's a good practice.

The only thing my dealership will do is warranty work. The rest will be done by myself with my floor jack, jack stands, and a bottle of cold beer. All that 'service' money will then be funneled into more fun avenues such as mods and track days. I don't need to pay some boner $200 to change my oil and lubricate my door hinges...that didn't sound right.
