Smile My Tablet Install

I did this a LONG time ago. Been meaning to post it. I went through several trial and errors to finally get what I wanted. Unfortunately I do not have the photos of the process anymore, because its been over a year...

I have plans to replace the Lid Cluster again one more time because I made two cuts that I find annoying. As well as include steering wheel controls this time around.

Video of it, through Glass:
https://plus.google.com/photos/11104...KiVkq_X6ea5ngE

I own a 2012 370z base coupe. I wanted to have as close to the Touring/Navi model look as possible.

What I Bought:
Bought the actual Lid-Cluster from the Touring/Navi model.LID-CLUSTER - 370Z (Z34) 2009+ (TOURING+T/SPORT) (! NAVI2) :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

Bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, because with the bezel it fit perfectly.
Amazon.com: Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 16GB (Dual Core, Universal Remote, WiFi): Computers & Accessories

Since I didn't have the Navi controls to fill in that gap. So I found a toolbox at lowes that uses similar plastic with almost identical black coating.
Shop Blue Hawk 16.02-in Lockable Multicolor Plastic Tool Box at Lowes.com

To keep the battery in the Samsung Galaxy Tab from overheating down here in Florida, I bought dual 80mm usb powered fans.
Amazon.com: Coolerguys Dual 80mm USB Cooling Fans: Computers & Accessories

OBD2 Mini
http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-CAN-...bd+2+bluetooth

What I did
First thing was cutting a small panel in the back of the tablet, to stick the fans on. I then glued them with gorilla glue.

Next was to cut the side of the toolbox in the same dimensions of the Lid Cluster dash gap was. I then glued it to the bottom of it. Fortunately you can use either a dremel or a pair of scissors.

At the bottom of the lip of the lid cluster were some extra plastic brackets, that unfortunately got in the way of the OEM Double Din Stereo. So I had to take a dremel and cut them out. Again you can use scissors.

Lastly to mount the tablet to the back is fairly simple.
I took a piece of thin metal and slide it under the vents of the fan. This way to secure it in place. I then screw them into the air ducts on each side of the Lid Cluster.
You will unfortunately notice that the Lid Cluster won't fit completely snug into place in the Z. This requires you to cut about an inch off each one of the fans and then place the grill and metal back in. Once thats down it fits perfectly into the Lid Cluster Navi Dash Trim.

I then run the USB cables down the side and they popout barely to plug into the power socket in the passenger seat.
And the audio cable runs under and then pops out to the aux jack in the OEM Stereo Unit.

I like the ideas here. So the OBD2 Mini links to the tablet and gives you diagnostics on the car? Any pics of that in action?

Are you able to link your phone to the tablet via Bluetooth or do you tether some other way?

Whole piece.
I have the same setup, minus tablet, just a screen with a camp2. This is an easy and clean setup.

This is mine:

The HKS camp2 is no longer made, it is basically a simple computer which plugs directly into the OBD2 port and reads out what the ECU can read. It also has additional sensors you can add for boost, oil pressure, etc.

dreamer- you ever think about filling that plate, and spraying the trim matte black to make it a smooth flat surface?

or do you keep stuff there like your shades and that surround keeps it from falling off?

There really is not much space, it just looks like a lot in the picture, and the piece cover the hole is painted to match the rest of the dash. I will be redoing the lower dash piece at some point with a better kit that fits the HU. When that is done I might redo the upper filler piece depending on cost.
