Default GPS and USB

Hi all,

My Z is 2010.

I read in the forums that the original navigation costs 400 euros to update. if one is to "acquire" the update for cheaper (lets say, 0 euros), how does one update the car?

It's crazy to pay so much money for an original system, and then pay MORE to update it. there are great GPS devices that sell for much less...

second issue: I don't have a USB jack in the car (since USBs are so rare and precious, apparently) . Am i destined to use an IPOD through the AUX input and miss all the fun, or is there a better solution? (one that doesn't require big changes or big money, hopefully).

Thanks

Roni

Are you talking about the factory nav and adding it after you get the car? It is not possible without basically redoing half the wiring and getting all the bose components. I would recommend getting an aftermarket unit in which you usually just upload the newest maps to a thumb drive and upgrade it through the head unit (kenwood and garmin)

That or i believe you could just get a DVD receiver and use your phone navigation apps, they are always up to date and free..

I couldn't agree more. The smartphone Nav apps do so much more than a HU based system and the updates are free.

Hi sronis,

As far as I know, only can load CDA (ordinary CD's) into the HDD, can't load files from any other media.

The factory NAV is updated different ways depending on the year of car. I know mine, the 2009 is updated via PC (at dealer), but the other years DVD's or via SD card, not sure. Search is useful for finding that out, it's been discussed a lot, there is a huge thread somewhere.

USB interface, I thought that with the 2010 full on Navi/Touring package, there was a USB A input jack? I know the 2009 does not have USB interface at all.

I read that loading a CD allows copying the MP3s into the HDD. is that correct? it's a stupid solution for a 2009+ machine, but if that's the only way...

Factory nav - if i had a SD card input it would be good, but nope... I was also sure it's DVDs but you say only CDs? again, for a 2009+ machine? that's embarrassing.

USB interface - i was also sure it comes with it, but nope. only AUX. again, embarrassing.

Actually a lot of the newer app radios integrate themselves into your phones navigation so in term they are always up to date.

Hi again,

Question: my audio/nav system is "connect" or "connect premium"?
I don't have touch screen, don't have USB and i don't see the CD player saying it has DVD, only 6 CD changer (does that mean it only uses regular CDs? for a 2010 car??).
If that is the case - how is the NAV system updated? only by CDs?

Thanks

Roni
