Is Satelite Radio Dead?
Just curious what you guys think about Satelite radio and the threat of wireless internet on phones, etc. I just set up my HTC Touch Pro to stream audio off the net as well as the gazillion internet stations. Since you can set up Shoutcast at home, etc as well you could be streaming your own audio from home onto your car radio system too. I'm assuming you can stream audio with the iPhones as well.
The only place I could see wanting to have Satelite radio is if you are in a remote location where its difficult to get cellular coverage. I know my internet connection is better than the Satelite - every time I go under some trees, buildings, bridges, etc it cuts out but not the internet.... |
It's probably dead for a couple reasons. I didn't renew because I started hearing commercials. I mean, what's the point if you're going to have commercials?

I stream ESPN radio & Air America over my phone at work every day. I want satellite radio, but at this point, there doesn't seem to be a reason to pay.

I had Sirius for a year. The advertisements lead me to believe, The Stones and The Who were played 24/7/364. No way, they played them two weeks at the most. I felt deceived and ripped off!
It's not wroth the money, I had it turned off 98% of the time I had a subscription! "I found better music and news on the car radio"! |

Satellite radio is by no means dead, HD radio will never have the amount of channels nor the quality of sat radio. I had it in my last vehicle I have it at home and I will have it in my vehicle now, I love it there is nothing like driving anywhere you want and not have to worry about static, looking for stations and all that jazz. I love my Sirius and I will always have it.

I am not arguing with HD radio SAT radio is what I am comparing and your internet radio is like 94-128kbps some are better but sat radio is like 256 I believe I am not arguing just think it is to much of a hassle just to get internet radio in your car.
