Default Compact Flash Maximum capability and any workarounds?

I was told in the Audio/Video area that you were able to get more than 512 files recognized on your Compact Flash card? I bought a 32 gig compact flash card and began to realize I was not getting a very random playback from the 1200 or so MP3 songs on the card in the root (no folders), then instead of shuffle I selected play in order and went backward from 1 to 512, then realized the rumor was true 512 files was the current limit. I put the 1200 songs on there as a quick start/test and haven't transferred any more since that limit discovery.

Do you know a workaround? Is it hard limited to 512 items? Like 256 folders with 1 song each, or 512 items in the root folder etc.?

I currently only have 256 items or songs or about 5gb of usage from my 16gb cf card, I thought I had alot more than that so I'm not really maximizing the limits of what the car reads for max songs unfortunately.

I can't help to confirm that you in fact can go beyond the posted limits from the owners manual.

You're SOL

You either buy a used old iPod and leave it connected, you use the red/white RCA cable or you do what this guy suggested and use your phone or other Bluetooth device:

Thanks Triple's,

Hi DEpointfive0, I do have a 30 gig iPod 5th Gen in there now it works fine, charges with no issue, the iPod reads it's files, not the radio, so no limit there.
I am curious to know if anyone had figured out a way around, and if 512 files was the hard limit, could I format the CF Card as different partitions, could I somehow arrange the files so as to perhaps read different folders with 512 items in each, does the Navi read folders or does it read all folders and display all the files in the folders at once, etc.?

Would really like to know more about the CF slot that's all.

The 512 files limit is a function of the file system that the device is using.

I would take a wild guess that you could put multiple folder with 512 each. Best way to find out for sure is try it. Won't hurt anything.

Still will be the same outcome. Its a limitation the the software only being a able to ready a total finite total of files.
