:inoutroflpuke:

For a 5000 watt amp it sounds like you would need a 10 foot sub. Sounds like a bit much to power a 10".

Dont look at the max power, look for RMS on both the amp and speaker. Try to match those numbers.

Tyler_370z 03-13-2013 04:35 PM

well it was a free amp and wires and I have kicker speakers so was kinda thinking kickers but I know I can do better but the speakers are Kickers so would that mess with the sound at all?

VDC_OFF 03-13-2013 04:45 PM

do some research on the amp model to find out the RMS power.

Tyler_370z 03-13-2013 05:23 PM

what does RMS stand for? sorry this is my first time getting into systems and all I have always been a performance guy all the way but now Im doing it all with my Z :) gotta spoil my baby

I just installed a 15" kicker l5 on my 370z I had a 12" kicker l7 and a 1500 Rockford fosgate class D and my l7 lasted 30 min ...so I installed the 15 and lower the gain on the amp...so a 5000 watt amp will blow anything you can fit on the back of a 370z!!...correct me if I'm wrong here guys !!!

Root Mean Square

Manufacturers take a lot of liberties when they advertise thier Max Power of thier subs/amps, but the RMS is what matters. I have 500w RMS going to an 8" sub and it sounds great and I don't even crank the gain up. You start getting over 1000w RMS just for a sub, Its a little overkill, you'll start rattling your beautiful Z apart.

I got the amp for free. Its kinda new and my buddy had a 15 in his old T Bird and gave my everything but I have a custom box to fit a 10 :( so what you all are saying is that it will work but will blow my 10 :(? what if I have a bass control switch and keep it way lower? idk how much this amp is worth but im sure I can get some black getto guy with a cadi to buy it on craiglist but I would like to keep it if possible!

If that truly is a 5kW amp, there aren't many car speakers that will handle it, not to mention the damage to your ears and car. Of course, you don't have to turn it all the way up - limit the input to the amp so it doesn't put out more than a few 100s of W.

BTW, a 5kW amp will pull more than 350A under full load at 14V. Will your wiring, alternator, and battery handle that?

Tyler again we need to know WHAT amp and WHAT sub you have. What are the models. You will not blow it if tuned properly.

Tyler_370z 03-14-2013 10:43 AM

one sec I will take a look at the brand. but what your saying is, is that it would be smart to defiantly have a pro install and tune it?
