Can't I get a few extra days in my annoying car before I have to rip my exterior plastics out???

Honestly, that's AMAZING service right there!!! Tracie and Blake at GT Sound Control have been awesome.

I am currently upgrading from the 50mil stuff to the 70mil Onyx. The 50 mil was AWESOME, no regrets there, just wanted a bit more sound deadening

To the people at GT Sound Control, they make awesome products without the need to pay for Chip Foose on the other product

There's no smell, which is good for people who are afraid of the other product (That one has a slight asphalty smell for about a week, then it's 100% gone)

Honestly, the quality is right there with the other product!
But I will update with pics and such once I install it!

I got the GTMat free sample (don't know if it's still available or not). It was rather thin (30-35 mil, IIRC), which made it easy to form. It wasn't too tacky - as long as I hadn't rolled it down I could easily peel it off to relocate. Sound reduction was noticeable - quite an accomplishment considering this was my first install, I didn't have enough to completely cover the shock towers, and it was free (even came with a small roller; all I had to supply was some scissors and labor). If I were to do it again, I'd go with thicker material (50-70 mil sounds about right) and make sure I got enough to cover the shock towers (or start there and leave something else uncovered).
And I'd go with the smaller, pre-cut squares. The free sample was a 3'x3' sheet which was unwieldy at first.

I've never used DynaMat, so can't compare the two. Going by the comments on this site, the GTMat stuff is of the same general quality as DynaMat and less expensive. Most ppl are reporting that service at GTMat is exemplary. I'll be using more GTMat when I do the areas I missed when the free sample ran out.

Edit: Apparently the sample was 50 mil. I'd go with the 70-80 mil stuff.

The free sample was for the 50mil Pro material. Our Ultra is rated at 80mil and our Onyx at 70mil. Remember, Pro and Ultra work just as well as the leading name brand but are discounted due to the asphalt based composition. It is definitely the best way to go when on a budget. The Onyx version is the exact same material as that leading brand but we are able to price it cheaper.

Looking forward to your review of Onyx, Mr. DEpointfive0.

Thanks for the help guys!
Is there any weight differences between GTMat Onyx and other brands?

GTMat onyx and Dynamat Xtreme are about the same, GTMat is 70mil (feels thicker) and X is 80mil. So about the same weight based on thickness too.
The Onyx smells like new car smell, LOL
And their other stuff the asphalt one has the smell of asphalt for about a week, then it's gone.

I've used Xtreme a lot in the past to quiet down wheel wells and such, and I have no reason to go back to them anymore.
I'll tell you that I have heard X in another 370Z, and when I used their pro 50mil (granted, doubled up in some parts like the wheel wells) my sound deadening was just as good as his.

And just by the feel of the Onyx vs Xtreme, they feel about the same, the aluminum sheet on the GTMat feels a bit thicker, so watch out to not cut your fingers!

Also, I purchased 40 feet, it came in 2 boxes, those 2 boxes have 4 boxes in them.

Original packaging:

I can only assume they did it in such a nice way because if you stack or roll too much sound deadener on top of itself, the rubber squeezes out of the sides and it makes it WAYYYYY more of a PIA to install... And when you look at the WAY they packaged it, you can see the brains behind it...
(Normally you buy the stuff in a roll and material squeezes out of the sides.) they have the plastic backing hanging off two edges and they have a wax coated paper protecting the other sides in case there is some oozing.
That's legit right there.

Double Boxing:

Precut squares in the box:

That's exactly why it is packaged in many boxes. If you've ever used the other brand, you know that too much material in one box, folded over on itself, causes the butyl to seep out of the sides. Also, USPS and UPS seem to have stepped up their quota for damaged packages. :/

We are still playing around with packaging based on how they are received and shipping rates.

If DE can confirm, I believe one square foot of Onyx weighs 9 ounces. I cannot recall but I can get that posted tomorrow with pictures.
