I was just going to make a thread about this Great minds think alike?

I just saw one of the members Nismo this weekend. 2 JL 10"s in a zenclosure box. Very clean.

I am in for pics and videos.. You should really do both.

I think this thread is a good idea. Perhaps there may be an opportunity to improve on this idea in the creation of a sub-forum which would be a searchable data base of installed systems. I believe that given:

1. The decreasing number of brick & mortar shops

2. The reduction in number of brands (particularly high end) carried by these shops.

3. The unique accoustical characteristics of our cars (very small volume (51 cubic feet)), large amount of cabin gain, ambient sound levels (road noise primarily), etc., makes quality purchasing decisions based on hearing systems on sound boards or in radically dissimilar cars at the audio shop dealer difficult...

Purchase decisions are today are increasingly becoming nothing more than informed guesses and hopes.

Maybe I'm a dreamer, but considering we are a tight knit community, I think a lot of forum contributors would gladly enter their components into the searchable data base and allow THEIR systems to be demoed to other forum users if they had the reciprocal ability to hear the components THEY are evaluating in another forum member's Z.

In any case, my system consists of:

Front stage: Dynaudio 242GT
Subwoofer: Alpine SWR-10T in stealth MDF ring spare tire enclosure
Front stage amp: ARC KS300.4 (bridged, 400w)
Sub amp: ARC KS300.2 (bridged, 700w)
LOC/EQ: Audio Control LCQ-1
Wiring: Stinger

PS: The ARC amps replaced an RF 600-4 which will be posted for sale on DIYMA in a few days. If you're interested, before it gets posted over there, please PM me. Amp does 123w per channel, never mounted, and has about 25 hours of (easy) use.

Default 370Z aftermarket sound system

My 370Z aftermarket sound system

Speakers:
Tweeters/Mid\Bass: Focal K2P in stock locations
Sub: 8" Alpine SWR- 4ohm connected in parallel in custom composite/fiberglass sub box (flush with rear hatch floor).

Signal Processor: Audison bitTen

Amp: Hertz HDP-5 (5-channel amp)

Wiring: Separate wires connected to each speaker controlled by the signal processor (i.e. active set-up). The signal processor greatly improved the sound and imaging coming from each speaker compared to the passive crossovers that came with the focal speakers.

Car is at the dealer today, so I don't have any pics. Not that it matters, it looks like a typical install and is subject to change a bit in the next few months anyway. Equipment is:

Kenwood DNX9990HD head unit
Image Dynamics XS-65 6.5" component set
MTX Thunder 5604 amplifier running in 3 channel mode
JL Audio 10w1v2d4 sub
Zenclosures 10" rear firing box
Metra Axxess interface

The amp and sub were old units I had laying around from years ago. They'll stay in for a few months until the weather turns nicer and will be swapped out for an Alpine PDX-V9 amp and JL 10w3 respectively.

Sound quality wise the ID components sound clean, but the sub is a little sloppy for my tastes, especially at higher volume levels. It's a pretty entry level sub and the amp just doesn't have enough grunt to get the job done.

I just installed a
Pioneer DEH-80PRS set up 3 way active-
Apline PDX-V9 5 channel amp 4X100 watts RMS and 1X500 watts RMS
Image Dynamics CTX65cs Component speakers for the front
Image Dynamics IDMAX 10 inch sub in custom built sealed box.

I know most dont care for the single din headunit, but I love this one, and the options for audio tuning are really incredible for only being $280. Setting it up 3 way active was very simple and sounds amazing. The tweeters run off the head unit, door speakers (I have no rear speakers) and sub off the amp. I also installed Second Skin Audio corvette sound deadening package. Sound is incredibly better than the stock base stereo, and the sound deadening makes the car much more enjoyable and quiet. I did a before and after decibel measurement and dropped 6 decibels. Once I change the General tires out for nicer ones, I expect it to quiet down even more. My friend and I built the box ourselves out of 3/4 inch MDF, and coated it with bedliner to fully seal the box. We made the box so it would be easy to remove for track day and spirited weekend driving events.

Let's keep this thread going. I'm getting some really good ideas from this. Anyone update their system lately?

Though I don't have my car yet, I've already purchased a:
-7" Pioneer Avic Z140BH W/ that App Radio everyone's talking about
-Universal Steering Control adapter

but i need advice on getting the stealth, spare hub subwoofer enclosure or the zenclosure Upfire*? box. which one is better?
and I'm definitely having an issue deciding on a single 12WD6V2 JL AUDIO sub or two Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12 Punch P3's

I'm always strapped for cash, so I have been piecing things together slowly, but so far I'm at:

Pioneer DEH-P6200BT
Kicker 400.1ZX amp
Alpine SPR -60C components
Zenclosure box 12"
Crappy Sony sub that's getting replaced with an Alpine R someday...
Doors and hatch done with sound deadening material

Just my opinion but I don't think anyone NEEDS two subs in the Z. I have a crappy sony xplode sub in mine with only ~400w going to it and it hits pretty damn hard. Anything more would be overkill. Also, I like that the stealth box is a better deterrent for would-be theives, but the Zenclosure looks awesome and is pretty cheap. I got mine on eBay for just over $100.

I like that you only have 1 amp. That is what I am looking to do. I really don't care about the brand of the sub anymore.. I used to have a huge setup with kickers, but now looking for a cheap JL or something..

What did you use for sound deading? Dynamat? Also, did you get it installed at the audio shop?

No, I do al the work on my car myself, I don't let anyone touch it. I used GTmat, they are a great discount alternative to dynamat, and they are offering free samples here online. Check out their thread in this section, it's great stuff and easy to install. I would like to eventually go to an alpine pdx-5 or V9 amp to run my components as well, but my setup sounds great the way it is so I'm not stressing it right now. As was me ruined before, we don't have much cubic space in the cabin so you don't need the same amount of power or speakers as in, say, an suv

To touch on the sound deadening question, make sure you use a layer of closed cell foam over the sound deadening material. It does as much, if not more, than the sound deadening material to block out road noise and such. I'm using Ensolite from RaamAudio. It's cheap and installs much easier than the butyl tiles.
