Default Static problem

Since installing my new head unit (KW-R900BT), speakers (Polk db6501) and amp (Polk PA 330) I have noticed excessive static in some of my music. Its not all songs, and it is only when music is playing, not during pauses or breaks in the music.

It seams mostly to be present when high range sound is playing, bass isn't effected. Its a background crackling, hissing, static sound. I usually play music from my MP3 Player, and old Zune, or stream it via bluetooth from my phone.

It isn't there on all songs, some sound perfect, but many have this issue. Is it a source material (music file) problem? Or do I have a technical issue somewhere?

sounds like a source issue to me. Do you get this when listening to cd or Radio?

sounds like your phone/zune/whatever is amplifying the audio out

I would listen to different sound sources like Ron suggested to see if you notice it on any other sources.

Eliminating your speakers/amp from the equation will make troubleshooting much easier.
