Garmin (or other GPS) in cubby?

I'm looking to get a new GPS, probably a Garmin because I like the interface. Ideally I would like to use the Garmin inside the cubby hole, so that I can just close the cubby when I leave the car, rather than hassling with taking off the windshield mount. I have 3 main questions about this setup.

1. Will the 4.3" and/or 5" widescreen GPS units fit in the cubby?

2. Is there any way to mount the GPS inside the cubby so that A) The cubby door will close and B) the GPS won't go flying during spirited driving?

3. Will the GPS reception take a hit if it's inside the cubby during operation? It won't have a clear (or even partial) view of the sky from there.

I'd like to hopefully answer some of these questions before I buy a GPS. Thanks!
