Try to find a cheaper dealer or work a deal when you are getting something else done?

I agree, pricing is ridiculous for this.

Sorry to be a "newbie" on this, but how do we know when a newer version is available?

Further, are there any software updates for the system at all? How would we find this?

Thx in advance --
Matt

For Navteq update go here:

On the 2010 and 2011 the owner can easily do the Navteq update himself/herself. It is just a matter of buying the Navteq update DVD when available, placing it in the dash player and following some simple prompts. From what I have read though, the 2009 Z uses the HDD system. The only thing you get from the Navteq, website is a code. You take that code to a Nissan dealer, and using their "C3" computer and a Navteq master disk the Nissan tech does the update of the navigation system. So, with the 2009 Nissan you have no other choice but to go to a dealer for the install..

Thanks for the info! So it looks like my "maps are up to date" (tho I'm definitely bookmarking that site), but what about any software/firmware updates since the car basically operates on a computer - - or is there no such thing?

Music Box, the file system for USB, the slow speed when you're trying to type in a destination. . . all of these could use an update IMO.

Thanks again --

Sadly I think the only updates for the stereo/Nav software comes with a new model year.

I agree the Music Box is sad, and the USB file system support even sadder (and my 2009 CF support). But the iPod interface makes up for a lot, though mine needs some improvement for lookup.

I think the sadder part is that after paying for 5 upgrades you could pay for a nice new head unit with free updates from garmin!
