fiberglass box

hey im making a fiberglass box for my z...how much layers of fiber glass is good enough. Im putting it in the left corner of my trunk i taped it up. so far i have 3 layers. Would it crack if i just left it at 3 layers?

I'm sure others that have fab up a fiberglass box can respond (see chops post).

I would guess that 3 layers, depending on the thickest of the fiberglass cloth, would be adequate for the side & rear if the box is attached to the rear hatch indent. The front braced area (most use a MDF ring) where the sub woofer is mounted, may need additional layers. You could gelcoat the outside of the box so the fiberglass cloth does not show through. Other fiberglass posts add putty (bondo) and paint. You may want to cushion the backside of the sub box where it butts up against the plastic trim panel to avoid rattles/squeaks. Also, you should consider adding a mounting strap/velcro so it does not move for safety reasons.

37z got any recommendation on a cushion/pad/mat to use to prevent the rattle from the trunk trim or strap/velcro.

sorry for no pics of the tape and adding the fiberglass but this is what i have so for. I have the option to put either a 12" subwoofer or a 8" subwoofer. I honestly think i will just go with the 8"

My thoughts- I would attach wires to the backside of the rear of the sub box. The wire could then be attached to something (an existing bolt) located in the sub floor area of the car where you can access it by removing the spare tire. I case you need to remove the sub box; all you would have to do would be unbolt the wire. Make sure you wrap the wire in rubber or plastic wrap where it comes in contact with metal edges to prevent the wire from cutting through. Strenghten the area where the wire attached to the sub box by adding a washer and glass over it to prevent movement and prevent the wire from pulling through if you have to stop the car suddenly. Similarly, add a washer on the wire where it bolts to the car.

Try rubber strips or thick felt attached with spray adhesive on the outside (backside) of the sub box where it comes in hard contact with the factory trim piece. Second Skin sells a material that is made for reducing rattles (I am not sure what it is called). No need to cover the entire backside of the sub box; only where the sub box rubs hard against the factory trim piece.

heres a little update on my box..sorry for the pic quality just need to make some adjustment before i get it painted. What color do you guys think i should go with gloss black, matt black, trim black? any other suggestions?
