Are the decks like the alpine cda-9887 and the new 117 still good decks to buy even if I am gonna go passive with my system?

short answer...Yes! the fact that they have 3-way X-over built in is just one bonus.
There are other decks also, the 2 mentioned are just some of the better bang for the buck ones.
