Hi,
I decide to invest in an auto-dimming mirror with compass, temperature, Gentex 50-Genk51A.
I had a few concerns going in to this, I wanted the mirror to look OEM and not be out of scale, not to large.

I also wanted the display to be red umber like the rest of my interior lighting. That didn’t happen came down to getting the older version with the red umber, older technology or getting the newer greenish blue version with newer technology and features like compass, temperature.

So I went with Gentex 50-Genk51A, my OEM mirror was around 9 1/2 “the Gentex was roughly 10”, ordered it over the internet for $260.00 plus $9.00 two day FedEx see picture. GENTEX AUTO DIMMING MIRROR GENK51A with HOMELINK COMPASS & TEMPERATURE DISPLAY and BONUS Wire Cover GENK51

GENTEX GENK51A

This unit has performed flawlessly since installed; that said, my only issue has been the temperature readings, it seems not as consistent as the computer reading from the car?

When running the car outside the temp reading is very similar to the cars temp but once I stop and idle or go in the garage, the temp starts to steadily climb ? It just seems overly sensitive to me, anyway who knows that may be a good thing.

The auto-dimming seems a bit faster than the one in my Infiniti G35 xS, Home-link and Compass work just fine!

I would defiantly recommend Gentex line of mirrors.

Alex

Not trying to be a jerk but just have a simple question. Why with the radar detector wire sticking out and the ipod in plain site did you want a mirror that was oem looking? Why not get the radar hard wire integration kit and get a nice aftermarket radio and have gps with a compas and have your ipod out of site?

Other than tht it does look slick and oem I do like it.

Not at all it’s a valid question!

My car like many on this forum is still a work in progress, that being said I’ll give you an example of what I’m currently planning, I have the Escort Shifters ZR4 under my tree that I plan on installing myself, can’t open the damn box till after Christmas, the Escort 9500ix will then be hardwired and integrated into the car as a complete system, placed on dark mode.

As for the compass and temp on the mirror they are cute add-ons why not!

The IPod soon will also be a thing of the past, one of the primary reasons I purchased the base model and not the Touring version, I wanted something different than OEM, I like to control what went into the music, GPS, Bluetooth, components, weight was also an issue but mostly I wanted to personalize the look , feel and sound of the interior my way!

When it comes to music let’s not forget my cars name on its tags! ”Orpheus”! “lol”

Alex

P.S. When I’m ready for my music, GPS components I may very well reach out to you for advice, thanks.

Alex! What the heck are you doing over here! Get back to the Stillen and Berk threads where you belong! ;-)

Seriously, where is the temp probe for your mirror? My guess is it is getting affected by engine temps when there is no air movement around it.

I like the mirror. I wish the Homelink mirror on the Touring had a compass. My sense of direction is terrible. I could be facing the setting sun and insist that I am pointed north!

I agree that an integrated/hard wire for your radar detector would make for a great clean look. I can walk you through where to find the accessory line to tap under the shifter trim (that's where I got power for my rear fog light switch) if you decide to go that route (other guys have been using add-a-circuit, which is also a fairly easy way to get switched on power).

Dave,
I’m all done with Stillen and Berk for the time being , next will be rims and coilovers!

Your correct, I had to move the probe on the front plastic grill, just a bit more out along the grill, now temps are more in line with the vehicles temp .
Nissan Tech Martin did a nice install!

Dave I will most likely need all the help I can from you on the shifters , thanks!

OK Dave , let's mix it up a little , just read the fine print?? ha ,ha!!!

FYI our neck of the woods in PA is number 11 on the global variance zone, hope that helps you sense of direction a little “lol"
