Default CD Changer defect in 370Z Touring models

I'm the proud owner of a 370Z touring, and I noticed that the 5 disc changer skips the first 3 or 4 seconds off of a song.....everytime! I visited a dealer to see if this was covered by warranty, and I had trouble convincing the service rep that there was a problem. I'm a musician, I notice stuff like that, and it's annoying! She finally noticed it, and said that it probably wouldn't be worth crying about........a premiuum stereo....jeeez. I suggested trying the CD in another car, and it did the same thing. I'm just wondering if it's a problem that anyone else has experienced. I'm going to contact Nissan to see if they can investigate. I paid extra for the good stuff, and I'd like it all to work 100%....not to much to ask for on an otherwise perfect car.

hmm interesting. Does this happen with all CDs? If you burn a "fresh" scratch less CD and pop it in the player, do you still get skipping? Are these mp3 format or regular format songs? Let us know. thanks.

Does this happen all the time, or only when it's cold?

This is not a daft question.

Can't say I've loaded a CD into my changer on the last three cars I've owned. MP3 player is the best way to go. You can't cram 3500 songs on a single CD with room for at least 10000 more and then carry it with you in your pocket for the next plane trip.

Does it matter what format your playing? CDA vs MP3 vs etc...

First, let me thank all of you for responding, it's a bit overwhelming. I use the CD format because I'm a musician, and I have my own recording studio in my home. I know you guys have all of the new MP3's, and all the other "compressed" type formats, but CD's still work great for me. Most CD's I use are "home made", but are produced with professional gear, and play just fine in any other player. BUT for some stupid reason, in my Z, and other Z's with the Bose upgrade, the first 3 seconds of each song are cut off. When using store bought CD's, the problem is less frequent. This appears to be an isolated problem, and I do appreciate everyone's input and concern..........I record my own music in my studio, and when I play my CD's in my Z, all of MY intros get cut off.....and it's more than just a bit frustrating. It's just sumthin I'll have to figure out on the CD production end.

HiDeZ, try making a CD where the song is edited to start from the middle and see if it still creates the same issue.

Thanks for clearing up the mp3 issue. What about your bit rates. Are they really high? Also, can you try creating CDs with different write speed set by your burner?Try one with slowest write speed to medium and then high. Just for testing purpose.. Also, I saw this in the Serv. Man and thought I would show you

Do you have text embedded in your tracks? Some non-audio information might end up confusing the player.

Do you record directly from WAV recordings?

Since the problem mainly occurs on CD's that have been copied on a Fostex Professional CD Mastering recorder, or a Denon CD recorder connected opticly to my 400 disc changer. I'm under the assumtion that it's incompatability with my CD's. I just find it......peculiar. I don't experience the problem with ANY other player.....but the problem duplictes in another "like" unit. I'm a retired Electronics Technician, and I know that stuff like this happens. I appreciate all your efforts in helping me to figure this out, but I'm gonna try to experiment with different lead in time on the songs, since it happens less frequently on "store bought" CD's.......THANKS GUYS!

all i can say is that the 370z cd player is pretty sensitive. i burned a cd and there were some minor scratches on it, and the cd player refused to play the cd. so i had to burn another one, this one had absolutely no scratches and the cd player played it.

I've seen lots of car players that are very particular about what brand of blank media you use, and sometimes the speed of the burn, however it appears as though you are burning in real time. If you are using rewriteable discs, try write once discs.

I would make sure you use the standard full 2 second (150 frame) lead-in.

Or you could get a MP3 player that plays lossless WMA for equivalent quality to Redbook audio CD. You can rip the CD's digitally so it's a perfect replica (I work with audio daily as well). This isn't an excuse for why the CD player doesn't work but it does have the advantage in that you can have it hold a lot more music.

I'm sure it's a Format problem, and I'm sure that experimenting with the spaces and lead-in time, I'll find a way of correcting the problem. I'm sure that it's a "sensitive" player just having trouble reading the data. I shall tackle the problem! Thanks again for all the help!
