I mounted mine with the tape to the top next to the light as well. It hides it a little better but you can see a little bit of the bumper at the top of the image and also the license plate. i don't really mind that because my whole purpose is to make sure nothing touches the car and I get plenty of visibility already.
Either way you can't really go wrong with the mounting.
