Default MP3 Player Placement

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to place a MP3 Player that makes sense (easy to get to, easy to read, easy to mount). I have a Zune and have the Touring model stereo. I have to use the AUX input on the front of the stereo to have my Zune play.

It works fine, I just don't know where I'm supposed to put the player. I have to control everything from the Zune, since I only have an input to play with. If I place the player just below the stereo, it often ends up in the back cargo area with a fast acceleration (alright, perhaps a bit of an exaggeration).

I can't mount by my right knee, because it would be in the way. I don't want to mount it in front of the stereo because it will block the buttons I need to reach? I don't want to mount it on the windshield because I think window mounts are lame and they block my field of view.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What about in the cup holder? Should not slide around to much, and pretty quick access since it is right behind the shifter.

I use the AUX connector with my iPhone, which I place into the cupholder. Very convenient, does not get in the way of my hand/gear shifting, doesnt move and easy to pull, change song, and stick back in.

Also, see this thread for my pics on how I ran the AUX cable (you pretty much can't see any but an inch of two of it): Ideas on how to best hide the 3.5mm AUX cable coming out of stock/base stereo?

Stopped by Radio Shack on the way home and picked up a right angle stereo jack adapter. I plan to route the wires as you recommended and have them come up through the center consol. Will take pics and post when I'm done.

^All you have to do is pull on the passenger side leather knee rest, towards it's top, and it will pull back enough for you to shove the cable behind it. It is secured by, I think 4 screws, but those are towards its bottom, on top and around the back edges, it's just on clips, so you can pull back enough and not brake anything.

Thanks..took care of this when I was routing wiring for a back up camera. This was the easiest thing I've done in a long time.

I ended up removing the top cup holder/storage thing to expose the deeper compartment in the center consol. I drilled a hole (be very careful where you drill the hole) big enough for the audio jack to fit through (still need to get a grommet to finish it off). There's enough room to route the wire up and through and still place the cup holder/storage thing back in place. I'll post a picture once I wrap up the other stuff I'm working on.
