Default Help Deciding on a set of components!

Hey guys i've been lurking on these forums for quite a while, ever since i got my Z back in January.

Any ways, im deciding between 3 sets of speakers to put in for my Z

Currently i have a Kenwood DDX616 HU with a JL 12w3v3 (Zenclosures box coming soon!) powered by an Alpine MRP-M500 amp. For mids and highs im still running the stock base speakers.

The 3 sets of components im looking at are:

Polk MM6501 - about $180ish on ebay

MM6501 Car Audio System from Polk Audio

Rainbow SLX 265 Deluxe - around $230ish on ebay

SLX 265 Deluxe - Rainbow SLX 6.5" 2-Way Component System

Boston SR60 - around $200ish on ebay

Boston Acoustics SR60 Component Systems - Car Speakers at Onlinecarstereo.com

if anyone has any suggestions on these or other components please let me know. im trying to keep my speaker budget around 200$ (since i have to get an amp for them as well)

Thanks!

I just finished putting in the DB6501,Alpine pdx-5,Kenwood 7160,Kenwood 10in shallow sub.
The sound difference in the DB6501's verse the Bose I removed is night and day,for the money I don't think you can beat it.

nah im just going to put the 1 pair of compenents in the front. i figure the w3 will drown out the rear anyway haha

and also.. i think the mm6501 are a step up from the db if im not mistake so if the db's sound great.. the mm's should be awesome!

i have heard great things about the rainbows and the boston acoustics also.. still deciding on what i want haha

Oh, sweet dude. I hear good things about polk components and rainbow, can't really go wrong with either one. Which amp are you powering them with?

it depends. the polks are rated at 125w and the rainbow is 100w so it all depends on what set i get

I have dealt with all three of them. I am going to tell you the rainbows you are not going to be impressed with, there is barley no mid bass and nothing really sounds right. The Boston's are alright but I would not recommend them. Your best bet is the polk mm's which are great speakers for money so are the db's.

I just put a set of JBL'S in mine. The sound difference is amazing over the stock ones. But the polks are really good also.

Which Rainbow set was this ? Can you give me more information about the vehicle and products involved ? Not sounding right and barely no mid bass are two things that I may have heard two to three times over the past 8+ years. If possible I would like to try to assist in correcting this problem you had.

To the OP, have you yet settled in with something ? If not, the best advice I can give is to go and listen with your own ears to all of the above, and perhaps some others. Given your location I am sure I can recommend a few places for you to visit.

The bostons are a solid set of speakers for that price. Also to touch on the rainbow comment made a few posts back, I put a used set of those mids in the door of a toyota minivan and was blown away by the midbass with little power.

Are the Polk MM6501 able to operate without a separate amp? It the nominal power needed 25 watts? I already have a Kenwood DNX 5140 HU.
