This coming Saturday I will be having the following items installed in my 2009 Chichane Yellow 370Z..
Bigaudiofanat will be doing the installation. Attachment 16550 Pioneer x920bt Polk DB6501 Component Speakers Kenwood CMOS-200 Rear Camera PAC iPod AV Cable Metra Axxess ASWC Metra Dash Kit Metra Antenna Adapter Metra Harness Pics coming soon... |
 Congrats, and get Bigaudiofanat to take some pics during the install so you can post them up.
|
No amp to run the component speakers or head unit??
|
In for pics.
I didn't run an amp and I have front components and rear speakers. I can crank it up loud enough to cause involuntary bladder function. |
I don't really blast my music all that loud and to be honest the new speakers was a last minute decision.. I think I'll be more than fine without an amp...

wow, looks like a fun project. :p
GL with the install. |
Great choice on the Polk components. I was looking at these earlier today, as Amazon has a great deal for these right now.
Amazon.com: Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component System (Pair, Silver): Electronics Follow up: What made you choose the Pioneer HU? Just curious, as I'm looking into starting to piece together my *future* system. |
BOSE ftw :ugh2: Looks good and don't forget our pictures.
|
I got mine off eBay for $110. A total steal!
|
Ah. Yeah, that would certainly make the decision easy.
|
Bit of advice... Dont get the ipod cable. Just get a Micro SD card. I am regretting the fact that I got ipod cable. Haven't used it once yet and takes up tons of space in the glove compartment.

Looks good for someone that doesn't know what they're doing.
Come do my set-up and sound deadening. |
I actually might be heading to Florida if I can get a few installs together I will make it a week trip or so. Let me know.
Also more pictures on the way including the mic location. |
Install went pretty well and smoothly for the most part. Matt did a great and thorough job on my 370Z. You don't get this type of personal service when you go to the "professional" shops.
About Matt (BigAudioFanat). Through this entire process Matt has given me outstanding advice. He has been dead on 100% of the time. He has shared his personal opinions on many things, but ultimately allowed me to make all the decisions. Never once did he try to push his personal preference on me. He was extremely flexible, patient, professional and was always available to answer my (quite literally) 5,000 random questions. He also helped me find the cheapest prices possible! I went to 4 different "professional" installers and by going through Matt I literally saved over $1000. Furthermore he was much more willing to do the things I wanted! One install shop really tried pushing me to buy a rear view camera that I adamantly did NOT want (a boyo license plate camera) and charge me $250 for it!!! He was relentless telling me the type of camera i wanted was "lame" (Pioneer NDBC4). In addition to that he tried to charge me $1200 for the Pioneer avic-x920bt claiming I was getting a $200 discount since the MSRP is $1400. Now I mean.. come on!!! Best Buy sells the headunit for $1000!!! I ended up getting the headunit for less than half of what this clown tried to charge me! About the Install... We were able to install the bluetooth microphone up inside the dome light module. If you notice.. there are small holes for the sound to travel through and once you open it up there is plenty of space in there. The microphone is completely invisible and after testing it works perfectly! Major Kudos to Matt for making it work! A few months ago some guy was arguing with Matt saying that you do not need the dash kit when installing the Pioneer x920bt. The guy repeatedly said that you DONT need the Metra Dash Kit, that the gap around the edge was not noticeable. Well he could not be more wrong. Without the dash kit there is a small but VERY annoying gap. The Pioneer x920bt has the ridge around the front and is completely exposed without the dash kit. Also there is a gap across the top of the headunit that is wide enough to stick 2 business cards into so to the person who adamantly said you dont need the dash kit... you were wrong... nothing personal... "just sayin.." The Axxess ASWC works great! The unit did not auto detect with the headunit and car but Matt was able to program it in less than 20 min. I was very concerned about this part of the install because there have been a number of people who have had difficulty setting this unit up. install pics coming soon. |
Sounds great! Can't wait to see the pics. I know Matt gets some crap now and then, but his track record speaks for itself; everyone says he does a great job each and every time.
The mic in the dome light sounds very intriguing. How did you run the wiring for that? |
If you take one of the light covers off, than just pop off the middle part you will be inside that area. Than use something like a coat hanger or I use stuff SS wire and push from in there directly toward the windshield. You should be able to locate it and than tire the end of the mic wire and pull through. After that just run over to the side pillar tuck it in as you go down and run under the dash into the center counsel. You can mount the mic two ways, threw a good amount of wrapping electrical tap around the two posts that way you are not messing with glues. Or you can do epoxy and mount it there.

The rest of the pics...
The last couple pics show some really great craftsmanship. Two pics of the bluetooth mic install and the last one is the ipod cable into the cubby. Very clean and has an almost OEM Factory finished look! |
