HKS Camp 2 Installed on 370Z
I was browsing around in various Japanese blogs and saw this install of HKS Camp 2 in a JDM 370Z or should I say Fairlady Z. I thought I should share.

CAMP2 is an all-in-one engine multi-meter system that is incorporated with a vehicle’s on-board factory or aftermarket monitor. The launch of the CAMP2 comes just as HKS celebrates its 35th Anniversary. The first generation CAMP was released by HKS in 1996. At that time, it was the first monitoring system of its kind allowing users to view vehicle engine information. During the time of CAMP’s initial release, on-board factory monitors were still rarities in cars available in North America and aftermarket units were not as commonly seen as they are today. CAMP2 is now available for purchase through your authorized HKS dealer. TECHNICAL INFORMATION * Users can view up to 6 simultaneous readings while monitoring up to 24 data signals from the vehicles OBD2 port and optional HKS Sensors. * Installation is simple and connects to the vehicle’s self-diagnostic OBD2 port enabling the CAMP2 to function on a variety of vehicles and applications. * CAMP2’s menu features are user switchable to Metric or SAE readings according to user region. * ECO Drive – Programmable calculations for fuel costs, average fuel consumption, and fuel efficiency lets the user monitor real time data readings. (Vehicle applications vary, ECO option is only available to vehicles with the ability to read Injector and Speed data) * An included remote control allows the user to switch between functions and modes. The remote control receiver is separate from the base unit allowing convenient, user friendly placement. * CAMP2 allows map editing for the F-CON S/SZ/iS. |
Slick!

oh touch me... lol. i want one. for what...nothing, but why not? its sexy
|
How does it work when you pt the car in drive it cuts off the video input?
|
Not if you ground the parking brake signal to the HU and put a switch inline to the vehicle speed signal wire.;)
Kinda over kill though unless you really need all the data or unless you want audible alarms if any reading go out of range. |
Revive...I am considering this instead of gauges for the car so I can monitor stuff when I go to the track through just my head unit. But having a hard time finding the total cost with the sensors I would need. Anyone had ideas where I can look?
|
Reminds me of the GTR's toys. NICE!
|
man, that thing is tits.
|
I would of hard wired the wires behind the plugs, but that is me, as I said looks NICE

TerryCS, do you have any other images as to how it is installed and placed in your car?

Do you have to use the remote or can you use touch screen if you have it???

Where did you install the main unit? And is all you need to get started the main unit and a Nissan harness? I think I will order one after Christmas when I get my Pioneer AVIC-zB110

The only reason you want the optional I/F module is if you want to monitor the optional sensors. |
Your looking at about $600 just for the unit, then install money and if no nav then a screen too. So Id say a good $1000.
But Ive been wondering what to do with that empty space since I dont have the nav so this would be a nice filler. |
hummmm... id get a scanguage and just call it a day. modshack has those brackets too. keep the screen for nav and audio.

love it... gimme
need a screen first heh |
The HKS Camp 2 is really cool. What I like best is how in addition to displaying info from all the stock sensors you can add more like boost, EGT and so on.
Here's something interesting I saw along the same lines from Garmin: Garmin EcoRoutes ESP Displays Car Diagnostics On Your Nuvi GPS - ecoroutes esp - Gizmodo It also displays info from all the stock sensors but instead of having to use a wiring harness they have an OBDII plug that is wireless Bluetooth. I don't think it's expandable like the CAMP but still cool. To take it a step further I beleive Kenwood uses the Garmin software for thier nav equipped head units. It would be cool to see that feature integrated into the Kenwood stuff for next year. I think the CES show is Jan so I'm going to look out for that. |

Zsteve,
You dont need to have anyone install this unit. If you know how to plug in a obd2 connector and analog video cables than you should have no problems. This thing is my fav mod thus far. I have had my pioneer nav unit sitting in the computer room for over a month so I am going to install it this weekend and I will post pics and videos to show! I have already connected it to a computer monitor to set everything up. I am going to get another pioneer lcd custom built in where the storage bin is, above the radio. This lcd will be decicated to the camp2; mostly. It will be like a little GT-R like setup. The GT-R's is way way better but still its nice to be able to view nav and engine data at the same time. Overkill is my middle name! |

How's compatibility with the Z34?
Will these Display Data fields work w/o an optional sensor? Oil Pressure Fuel Pressure Also is the Nissan harness necessary for the Z? |
To my knowledge all the fields but but the optional ones work. If you pay someone to install this than its just because your a lazy @ss that cant plug few things into eachother. This mod may be just as eazy to install as its easy to take a $hit.
Yes its easy to install. I have a few pics I will upload now. But I will update this weekend with the final pictures and vids with a full review. I am installing the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT this weekend. So at this point I will take some media to share with you guys. Where is the best place to install? All the cables seem like they could reach just about anywhere. |
Any updates?
|
Try to get somthing up by sat. Calibration is a B!tch with this unit, but it does its job. Anywho I will try to write a review but I need to contact HKS about a few things so I might wait on the review until then and just post a vid and some pictures.
|
That sound good. Thanks man!
|
nice i want one for my G
|
well are cars are bluetooth capible so will there ever be a blue tooth OBD-II dongle that will use are navs without the garmin?
|
i found it new here for $444.05
HKS CAMP2 Engine Monitoring System All Makes - 48001-AK001 |
bump.
More info needed. I'm tied between Camp 2 or Magden carputer. |
What info are you looking for?
HKS is a full system where Magden is now officially just software. I have had mine on for around 3 months and loving it. It reads everything I need, had to purchase a few of the extras for boost and such but worth it with the supercharger. Here is my standard pictures I have, nothing great: http://lh3.ggpht.com/_wgFNZZBDMaE/TE...Screen%201.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/_wgFNZZBDMaE/TE...Screen%203.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/_wgFNZZBDMaE/TE...Screen%205.jpg |
The thing that sux about CAMP2 is that it is not designed to output AFR unless you use their ECU (eg F-CON iS). However, I've heard that GTM has a work around. Those with FI that are interested should contact them. In addition, you need their I/F module if you want to add external sensors.
If AFR is not desired, both solutions should do the job. Just figure out what you want to monitor and the total pacakage cost WITH sensors to make your decision. You should also consider a carPC solution where it can do a bunch of other stuff. I don't have any experience with Magden, but I've been pretty happy with the CAMP2 tho. I only wish they had a built in speaker module for their audible alarms instead of playing through the car's speakers. |
