what comes first?

This may have been answered but any advice will help.
On a budget so can't do complete system all together.
Have to do it in stages. So anyway which would you do first
change out the speakers or the head unit. Thanks.

I think the general consensus is that an upgraded head unit is the biggest single upgrade you can make. See this similar thread.

HU. It will make the stock speakers sound quite a bit better. They still sound like butt, just a smaller one. You'll have a lot more sound control with an aftermarket unit.
