Bigaudiofanat- Can you clarify something for me..? Above you said running your Bose speakers off your aftermarket headunit will fry it. What I did was get a wiring harness, but just the one that allowed me to tap into the factory wires, not convert ohm levels like the PAC unit you mention above. I am assuming that the factory wires behind the headunit are ALREADY GOING TO the Bose amp BEFORE going to the speakers, right? So, in my case, the Bose speakers should still be powered by the Bose amp. The headunit I'M using now (Pioneer X920BT) is just sending the audio source to the Bose amp, just like the stock Bose headunit, no? Am I off here?

For what it's worth, the performance of the stock Bose audio system in the Touring is at least 1000% better with this Pioneer X920BT in place. You have much better control from an EQ perspective, so you can do a better job of removing the deep guitar riffs from coming thru your highs. I'm no expert in car audio, so I'll be the first to tell you that. However, I've been installing my own car stereos and friends since 1990 and am VERY picky about sound quality.

There is one song I've used to tune my sound systems' preamps with, and it's Metallica's "Eye of the Beholder" off of their And Justice For All album. Regardless of what music you like, I recommend playing this song very loud, and you'll see whether your mids are pushing clean audio. If you quickly reach for the volume to turn it down to avoid harm, you might want to look into a preamp if you don't already have one. I know some don't like using them, but I swear by them and will never go without. But that's me. The point is that for those of you who are debating on getting rid of your stock Bose, I highly suggest you consider doing the headunit first to see how you like it as-is. I believe you'll be surprised. I will likely swap it out down the road, but it's not my highest priority anymore because I'm very content with what I'm hearing how.

So i just dropped in a z120bt into my sport touring z without the nav. I replaced my bose head unit. The harness does go to the bose amps, however, this is why you cannot directly wire your head unit to the harness. It is the bose amps that present such low impedance to the head unit. This is what will burn out your head unit. For my install i used a pac. The headunits 4x2 speakers wires (8 wires) were wired to the pac, and the pacs output wires were connected to the car wire harness. All other wires were hooked up normally.

I am pretty sure this is an accurate response, i hope Big can verify it.
