Default Harness ...?

Is it worth it or nec. to use the new radio harness ??? The only thing that will be used is the power , remote turn on , and ground. All other outputs would be rca so no need for the speaker wire to be used. Or should i just tap into the original harness to get to the power , remote , ground? Don't want to run these from another source just to run the radio ???

Also from what i read there is no plug and play steering wheel adaptor ?? Why would they make this and make us install all these resistors and such.. Only thing i can think of is that these are generic and the resistors in certain places makes them unique in each car ???? They should just make them for each application ..... Gonna get a headache here in the next 24 hrs when i get to that point

well there is the illumination wire too.. plus I guess it would keep your radio on the radio circuit..

Someone here mentioned there is a new steering wheel adapter? made by metra i think?

yah, kinda up to you. i'd get the harness just for the convenience of being able to work on the wiring outside the car.

People are kinda spoiled these days with the harnesses. You can definitely do it without. Your preference..

I've got the harness only thing is you need to run power , etc.. etc.. to it correct ? Why not just tap the original harness to get that ???? Illumination would come off original harness. Any one knows what wire is the illumination wire on the factory harness ?? I'm going out to work be back in a few. ill try and post pics up tonight if time allows. Thanks

ha? are you talking about the control switch module or the solder up some wires and make your plug and play harness?

as for the harness, there should be a list of colors and discription of the colorcodes on the packaging.

For the steering wheel control, get a Metra Axxess ASWC. There are no resistors, it auto-senses (as well as manual), you can update the firmware via an optional cable and it reacts instantly when making changes. I had the PAC SWI-Jack and it was a royal piece of crap.

Agreed.

I installed the Metra Axxess ASWC on a Pioneer MVH-P8200 to maintain the steering wheel controls and it works great. The update cable is a must though, being after I installed mine it wouldn't auto program, which meant it probably needed an update. No big deal though, it's programming instructions are pretty straight forward and take less than 5 minutes to complete.... Also, the wiring according to the website and what comes with the harness are kinda' contradictory. The pins that it says to tap into (before the stereo harness) aren't the color they say they are and if I remember correctly, one of the pins was completely missing.

I repair electronics for a living and it wasn't that big of a deal for me to signal trace the wires they referred to, though. Also, the trouble-shooting guide is very helpful in getting things straightened out if it doesn't boot-up properly. It will will tell you what wires you don't have connected and which ones you do, by reading the flashing sequence of a red led on the module.

It took about an hour to install, but is well worth it. Also, No resistors to mess with!

Get the harness I shake my head time after time at people that cut there harness or tap into the stock one. Get the harness for a cleaner install and less worry.

OTHERWISE you need to find and wire up
2 power wires
antenna power wire
ground goes to ground of car.
