Looking for volunteers and their z's

As the title says looking for a few z's to make a stealth box. I already know that others have theres out. But this will be hidden completely under the floor. Looking for people that want to keep and get rid of there spare tire. Please PM for more details.

z370z 03-11-2010 03:34 PM

Been watching your progress on the BMW install, looks great so far!

I'd be willing to volunteer, looking to keep my spare, but would you be willing to make a trip to Canada!? lol :ughdance:

tbonesteak 03-11-2010 03:53 PM

Omg Big, I would jump on this if i was in your area. You're right. I'm not very pleased with any of the "stealth" boxes out there because they are not stealth and you're limited to shallow subs. If you take a look at the S2000 JL stealth box, that's how a stealth box should be built. I had one and it was the best investment ever. The Wicked CAS magic box protrudes up top and if i wanted to show my sub, I'd have gone with a much flashier setup. If you can create something that is completely hidden, level, and can accommodate normal subs, sign me up! Gluck bro.

The problem CAS has run into is mounting depth, Its a good design but its tought to retain the spare and achieve proper airspace I will be working with Big on the fabrication end of things, Ive been working with fiberglass for 8 years and installing car audio for 10. My intention is to build a box that allows the spare to be retained and a box that loses the spare. There are very few solid options if you keep the spare.

I also have plans to do a prefab box that resembles the zenclosure to an extent but will have a fiberglass front face that can be matched to your cars color or done in carbon fiber. We're only looking for volunteers at this point, not trying to turn a profit

bigaudiofanat 03-11-2010 04:11 PM

Look forward to it Mike, another thing that we will be working on is incorporating a dedicated spot on the box itself for the popular alpine pdx5, considering many people are looking towards this option.

I think most that want a stealth box inside the spare (retain spare), realize that we will be most likely limited to a slimline sub. I am ok with that. A member here built a nice fiberglass box a while back that sat inside the spare and was flush with the top of the spare ......... the speaker didn't extend far enough up to protrude past the lip of the foam that sits on top of everything in the trunk....... a nice totally stealth look, and if you want, you could still cut out the carpet some and grill it. The CAS box is nice, but in trying to allow for deeper subs, and the owners desire for the 13", the box got bigger than I would want. Here is a link to the box I mentioned:

http://www.the370z.com/parts-sale-pr...tml#post336969

I think this is more like what a lot of members had in mind when we said "keep the spare" ............... not that the CAS box isn't first rate, it is.

bigaudiofanat 03-14-2010 10:07 AM

We want to do but also allow people to select other options than just the JL slim line. We also want to have them to have a place made just for an amp as well. The biggest downfall that we have seen is that all the boxes have the subs protrude out of the trunk floor, where as our will not.

did u get my pm?
im in jersey!

halrms 03-14-2010 05:36 PM

If height is a problem, why not build up the entire floor and create a false floor so that the sub is at level with the entire floor.

HT Rambler 03-14-2010 09:19 PM

That's what im gonna doe with my cas box !!

If you're coming down to S.A, is there any way you can come down to Austin. It's just down the road. Let me know. I'd be interested.

any chance you can make it up to New London, CT!? haha:tup:

Mike 11-12-2010 11:48 PM

just remember when building it, that the sport package and nismos have a different spare tire than the base model, and have even less space for the box.

bigaudiofanat 11-13-2010 06:57 AM

Oh I know lol done install on at least 14 z's.

It's great you want to make a box for it, but i wouldn't make it amp specific, amps change the look/size/shape to often.

2fast4thelaw 11-13-2010 12:27 PM

I gave away the plans to my stealth box that has zero protrusion due to the subwoofer firing into the floor of the spare tire area. There is no need for a grill and a downfiring enclosure will gain you better performance. If somewone could build it out of fiberglass instead of wood it would be the best enclosure for this car hands down in existance. There would be enough room to incorporate either an amp rack or plexiglass window like the way mine is designed. However a flat sub is the only type of sub that will work. I hate to say it but flat subs are the future and they are only going to get bigger and better. Right now, imo, JL is the only company that makes one that is as good as a conventional sub. I will see if I can find the thread and re-post it. It my own design and I am giving it to anyone who wants to replicate it.

FOUND IT!

Here is scale drawing of my subwoofer enclosure with the measurements. As you can see it a bit challenging due to all of the angle cuts but definitly doable if you have some good woodworking tools.

A good car audio shop can build this from the drawing if you want it professionaly. You can also omit the plexiglass window in the enclosure to simplify it. They guy who built mine just did it and he custom painted it inside and added some LED strip lighting to backlight the TW5 which I think looks pretty cool and unique.

It amazes me how deep this flat sub will play in such a small amount of space! I highly recommend the 13TW5 as it delivers wicked tight bass with tons of impact! Make sure you at least deaden the trunk area with sound deadning or it will rattle. Since it fires directly into the floor you feel bass up through the seat and its awesome! I does sound waaay different than a direct radiating sub and you really have to tune it to tame it down. Its a true subwoofer, you cant really hear it or localize it but you sure feel it!

toner123 11-13-2010 07:53 PM

did you ever get the car? I have the bose systema and I want to keep it but if you need a car to just make measurements and build and test fit you can have mine. i really don't drive mine in the winter. I am from new jersey right by cherry hill and I make trips home often so I could leave the car there and it would be no rush for you. i am not looking to get anything out of it and I have no need for a hidden sub box. Just trying to help let me know. Also mine is a 09 touring sport

Has anyone just raised the whole area of the rear a few inches? Just take the carpet out of the back and use it for a template. That would give you room for everything, Even some rear speakers. I wouldnt let the room go to waste, Put some lids in and some pockets. Weight would be a concern.

I am still looking for people.

And yes I know some people have, although my favorite thing is using the two flat surfaces behind the seats and mold in a speaker enclosure for 6.5's. I am currently working on a set for one of my customers.

sceptre155 02-28-2012 07:17 PM

How much time would you need? I'm about 5 hours away. I could make the trip once or twice.

bigaudiofanat 02-29-2012 08:22 AM

Looking at one day for ideas and measuring than one or two more trips for final fit and finish.

sceptre155 02-29-2012 01:39 PM

PM'd you
