Default 275 too steep?

just got quoted $275 to install a kenwood head unit with back up camera. they said price includes some sort of wiring harness kit to connect the wires with the new unit? is this a fair price for a professional install and is this "kit" really necessary??

You need the kit, but it's only a few bucks on the internet.

Scosche NN04B 2007 - Up Nissan Radio Wiring Harness - eBay (item 330221221661 end time Dec-09-09 16:37:19 PST)

Scosche NAA2B 2007 - Up Nissan Versa Antenna Adapter - eBay (item 230119254644 end time Dec-03-09 19:10:18 PST)

You'll need both of those. Amazon has them, ebay as well.

My shop charged about 80 for each, along with many other things so I might have gotten a bundle deal or something.

Personally, I wouldn't want to pay any more than $170-180...tops, for the installation of those 2 things.

Just doing a headunit is a simple install. You should try it yourself.

You need the harness which you will connect to your Kenwood. Then it just plugs into the car harness. The rear camera looks like a great Do It Yourself project as well and there are many threads on here which show it in great detail.

I agree easy to do just take your time, and make the connections for the wires well.

considering the work to do the HU and backup camera, i suppose it could take one 4hrs to install everything from start to finish (at ~$70/hr).

but yah, i'd just do it on your own. it's not difficult just a little clumsy at times.
