I ended up getting a Rexing V1 from Amazon for around $100, and I hard-wired it to the fuse panel by the driver's left foot. I wrote up a how-to with pictures, which can be found here:
DIY: How to Hardwire a Dash Cam or Radar Detector The picture quality is pretty good, but not too much better than my previous camera, the G1W. Here's a video from the Rexing V1:
