Front speaker that fit without mods

Hey guys,

Having had my Nismo a week I'm still loving it but the stero sucks LOL.

I miss having the NAV but that's the price to pay for getting the Nismo HaHa.

I'd planned on upgrading the audio any, but with so many threads on here, does anyone know what speakers will fit "without" modifications??

Looking at the Crutchfield.com site, using the "Outfit My Car" option, it suggests anything from 5" to 6-3/4"

I'm looking at getting something like a Kenwood in-dash GPS - double DIN.

Not sure about an additional amp really, so I'm just looking to change the stock speakers with something that has better quality and power handling for the new head unit.

I may add a subwoofer and sub-amp later, as the head unit has outputs for an amp.
But right now my plan is just head unit and speakers.

So what size really fits, and is there a "depth" standard to follow?

As long as you use the zenclosure spacer rings any 5 to 6 3/4 would fit your z most just use 6.5. The polk db series are able to be ran off your stock head unit but if you are going to run higher end component speakers you might want to think about getting a amp.

But you will hav to either cut out or make a bracket for your new 1 inch tweeter up on your dash but it goes in the factory location.

I was actually looking at the Polk speakers that you mentioned

I'm also considering component speakers, is there really a difference, especially in a car this small..??

I also read another thread saying that it's not worth replacing the rear speaker, but just disconnect them.... comments??

That is what I was recommending was component I would not put coaxial seekers in a car that already has a place for tweeters. Spend a little more get better quality with components.

The rears are only in the bose systems which you do not have so there are no speakers or wires there. I would not install any rear speakers because of the fact of how small the car is and for your sound stage "where the sound is coming from"

do you know what size spacers to use its showing 4 or 5 different ones one the site?

I have used the 5.75 for most

Well as luck would have it my girlfriend just pulled a set of speakers out of her closet,
that she planned on putting in her Audi as her speakers were popping.

However she's since sold her car and had these hiding away.

So I have just aquired a set of Polk DB651 (6.5"), and Polk DB401 (4").

I think these would be better than stock for now until I have funds for something better,
as I have to invest in the head unit first.

As "bigaudiofanat" mentioned there are no rear speakers in my Nismo, as I just ran outside to confirm this LOL.

So it can't be that hard to wire up these 4"s in the back.

Actually you need to run new speaker wire because there is none there, so you will have to run new wire, and than find the wires that are coming out of your stock head unit and wire into them for the rears. It is a bit more than that. I have never done it because no one I have done an install for has wanted rears.

Those polks are nice just not components just make sure to disconnect the tweeter from the dash.

Well I may have to agree with those more worthy than I

I think it would be a better investment to get a decent set of components and abandon the rear speakers.
I just checked out some Polk DB6501 components instead.

There seems to be some debate if a head unit is enough to drive these though at 22W per channel, as some people opt for a 2 channel amp to drive these instead.

The stock head unit is not even putting out that probably like 8 watts. Even aftermarket head units are putting out 22 watts RMS. Your best bet if you want more volume and quality out of your speakers is to look at an amp.

I just had a kenwood dnx-5120 installed, and am ready to upgrade my speakers to a nice component set but am not sure what set to go with, any recommendations? I dont plan on adding a subwoofer, so I'd like the speakers to provide alil bass & just sound clean, cus it just doesn't sound right with the crappy stock speakers.

Are you going to power them with the head unit or with an amp? Your not going to get much bass with the head unit powering any set of speakers. Also what is your budget?

I was planning on powering them through the head unit, around $200-ish - $300 tops

I would not spend that much for something that would be powered by your head unit. As I recommended to the OP the polk db series are good, also look at the alpine type s.
