Have not plugged in my phone yet. I just use bluetooth to stream Pandora or make/receive phone calls.

yah, ive been doing just the bt steam (pandora) on my dd's AVH-2500BT (app-mode not activated) and plugged my iphone to my proclip with lighten connector charger.

honestly speaking it does everything i need it to do without carplay..

not really, but my wife is a huge ghibli fan. i like muta though.
