I agree with bigaudio. I got the Pioneer AVH 3700 a month or so ago and it was running version 8.8, but there was a firmware update online to go to version 8.31. Try to update it before anything else, it helped resolve a lot of my issues.
Also, I know appradio is behind on their compatibility with certain newer Android phones. I have a Note 4 Edge and online it says it is not compatible with that phone, but when I hooked it up via USB for the fun of it, it actually worked!
Double check the firmware and give it another shot.
