Why are you using such a large computer for this? You can use like an ITX motherboard. Are you trying to play crysis on this thing? If its just a nav and audio player i dont see the need for such a large computer in there. Correct me if I am wrong. But from my understanding it looks like you are sticking a full sized ATX mobo in there.

I am going to have to get that software. I am really struggling with getting my ATOS cloud files to open in solidworks. I have been pretty busy and havent had much time to mess with it. But I think I am going to get the autodesk 3ds software you are using and play with it a little.

Oh I am going with a mini ITX board for the build. That picture of the two boards side by side is for my work PC. I had to switch to Intel to properly run the Kinect. If you look at the 3d model picture I have in the thread, it's actually a ASRock Q5000 Minix ITX that I have modeled and will be using.

Yeah 3ds MAX works very well for point clouds. I just want to point out that the dash I am doing in MAX. But the rest I have done in Inventor for accuracy and speed. If you need me to convert and simplify your model so you can put it easier into Solidworks PM me and I could help you out! That is if you can't get a hold of the software.

At the moment just the onboard AMD Radeon HD 8330 Graphics. I think that will be enough to run everything I am wanting to do. But when I get into the hardware I may change my mind.

Here's a weekend update everyone. I sat down today and started putting in the work to redesign the dash so I can bring in the other models for the computer. I am making a new mesh over the old because the geometry works so much better than the original scan. There is a good few hours in there so far. And I've totally been saving every 10 minutes lol!

I've been pushing through the dash design into a well modifiable design. I was able to flesh out the front and sides last night. I will be posting pictures this evening so stay tuned. I'm allowing myself about 3 weeks for the redesign of the dash but with the progress made so far I'm hoping to cut that in half.

In preparation of the next step I have been talking with representatives with 3d Systems. I ordered a sample kit of all the different printing methods. So I will finally be able to put hands on the different types to figure out if stereolithography (SLA) is the way that I want to go.

After speaking with them I found that they do sheet metal there also. So I may be able to kill two birds with one stone and have them make my PC case as well!
