It applies to audiophiles as well (I'm a hardcore audiophile... my stereo cost me more than my car). Every speaker review in Stereophile/Absolute Sound/Etc will mention both bass extension (some people are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars just to get those last few Hz) and spl (sound pressure level). So we want bass... the main difference is that we're not willing to sacrifice sound quality for that bass; a bass-shy system with accurate sound is considered to be much higher quality than a "thumper," which might deafen you but sounds like a**.
