Tried wiring stereo but all I get is static

So I bought an aftermarket stereo and a wiring harness, connected all the wires and all I got was static. I'm too cheap to pay someone so I need some

I'm too cheap to pay someone so I need some help lol. Also, there's a second harness that's really small. it hooked up to the corner of the oem stereo but the new stereo doesn't seem to have anywhere to connect that so I left it be, could that have been the issue?
