The Bimmer actually looks pretty good. It's neither better nor worse...just different. I think the color rather than white is helpful and less retro, stockcar-ish.
FWIW the stock cars are yellow (Goodyear) . Though some of the other series that run a Hoosier tire are white.

The F1 cars were white (Bridgestone) but this year will be yellow (Pirelli).

But I agree about the M3. If done right it won't look bad at all. As long as the owner likes it.
