Wondering about these build numbers...
 

I called Nissan and got my build number, but after looking at this 40th anniversary member list, I am questioning the validity of these build numbers. For example, Nissan told me that the build date on my car was on 1-11-2010 and my build number is #281. If you look at the attached list, you will see members who's cars are built near the same date as mine, but will have build numbers in the 800's or so, while other will be later build dates, but have lower numbers. Seems a bit fishy...

Krzykanuk how did you get a build number? Nissan USA says they don't have access to our information. Nissan Canada said try didn't have a build order just that they had the vins and build dates. So I'm confused as to how you got yours to be #281?? Did you buy an American 40th?

I have also composed my own list to collect the last 4 vin#s and the build #s when available. I have to say I see some irregularities in it to! I will post my findings when I get home from work! I even have some additional vins from members I pmed. The Canadian 40ths where built in between all of the others which is Nissan canadas first lie! They told me they made ours after the fact(the first 1000 for our American brothers).

My understanding is that they built 1,000 for Canada and the US and 120 of those went to Canada. A quick look at the VIN versus build number in the list above indicates some correlation; specifically, the higher the VIN, the higher the build number. It looks like build #1 is possibly VIN 501633. I wonder if the European Quartz coloured 40th anniversary cars were built intermixed with the North American ones, so that there are gaps in the sequence of VINs, if you know what I mean. I'll be interested in what your analysis found. I think most of the Canadian ones are A7, while all the US are M6, so the Canadian A7s mave have been on a different production line.

From the list compiled by a fellow forum member, you can see how my build number is 291 but then within a few days of my build date, there is another car numbered 426 on Jan 15 and on the same 1-15 there is another build number of 625. It seems as if these numbers are all over the place. I question whether we were just given random numbers?

Correction: I made a mistake with the jan 15th and the Jan 25th date, but even then I cannot see Nissan building almost 200 more 40th anniversary editions during this ten day period.. Doesnt add up.

If they where giving out Random numbers, then there would be no correlation like on the graph. It would be all over the place, instead of a pretty straight line. And if they were building around 20 40th Anniversary's a day they could easy build 200 cars in 10 days.

Build #1 should be 501634 and not 33.

Also, Nissan can easily build 20 Z's a day at the Tochigi plant (20*365 days = 7300 Z's per year). If they couldn't they wouldn't come close to matching the 15,000 Zs they sell a year worldwide.

My build number is 244 and build date is January 8, 2011. This seems to agree with your graph, basically.

Yes, build #1 should be 501634. Apparently I can't add real good.

Nice graph. I'm #426. Got my # from a certain Product Manager at the Franklin, TN USA headquarters of a certain car company who looked it up on an Excel spreadsheet in his office. He also has the nice 40th Anniversary Z poster in a frame on his wall. So I'm pretty OK that my build # is legit. Too bad the build #'s weren't provided with the cars.

Well that's it! I hope some more of you will help by providing your last 4 of your vin from those of you who have a build number already but haven't given your vin!(I put you in BOLD) you guys could help a few others figure out where they fall into the 1000! Feel free to PM me your info I have NP editing it or you can add it yourself!

Thanks for ever ones contributions! already you can fill in the gaps on a few! I will be back within the hour, after I walk (Nismo). Then I will bust out the calculator and fill in some of the build numbers based on the current sequences, some you can see where they must have made 40ths for a couple weeks straight to meet the numbers! (based on krzykanuk's graph!).

I have some additional build #/VIN pairs that you don't have. From what I can figure out, there were only 40THs made from 501643 (build #10) to 501797 (build #164). Other than that, it appears that non-North American 40THs or maybe other model 370Zs were made intermingled with the NA 40THs.
