A solid/welded differential is a track-only modification, IMNSHO. As BGTV8 pointed out, a welded diff can be dangerous on the street.

I can't imagine a drift car making a very good DD and vice versa. The goals of each are VERY different and too many compromises would have to be made - you end up with a car that doesn't do either job very well.
Of course, there are as many definitions of what makes a good DD (or drift car) as there are drivers, so YMMV.
