I am pretty confident that that plate is just for setting up the shifter so that you cannot go into reverse by accident. Here are some pictures from Mr. Galeforces short shifter install thread.



You can see how much room you have to shift the shifter here, there is no way that I think that is working as a Syncrosaver.
