Are you sure the RPM is the trigger, and not the fact that you're accelerating hard? Try running up to those RPMs smoothly and slowly (easy on the gas, just don't upshift, and let the revs keep slowly climbing). It's more likely to be induced by acceleration than by RPMs, although I guess anything is possible (vacuum-related?).

If it's acceleration, check fluid level as noted above. Also check if your parking brake is adjusted properly (if it's way loose, it could slap around and catch the shoes and basically engage itself without you pulling the lever, or simply get mechanically out of whack (parts not attached the way they should be), again it would happen on sudden accel or decel - although I don't see how the car would know to turn on a light for that).
