Unusual tire wear...rears shot too soon?

Yes I did a search. There are a few mentions of people having the rear tires go sooner than the fronts but I seem to have a more rapidly dissolving rear set.

Car is a year old, has 6000 miles, no highway. Alignment is within spec. Front tires look brand new 90+% left. Rears are evenly worn but 10% left and almost completely bald.

Whats even more strange to me is that it seems to have worn out all within the last 2-3 months/1000 miles.

I don't drive like a maniac, no burnouts, etc etc.

Any thoughts on this??

Tire wear has lots of variable including heat and tire pressure. My OEM rears only lasted 12,000.

I don't know, but it's hot in Tucson and most of the roads in Tucson suck hard!

OEM alignment specs aren't very good if you're lowered. Mostly toe... If you're to spec. you're most likely toed out in the back, which could cause this wear.

:iagree:

The toe out eats more than a negative camber.

OEM tires are garbage first off.

typically they are only at HALF the tread wear rating compared to the exact same tires that arent from factory. usually the OEMs on the Z is 140 treadwear rated.

my OEM rears lasted about 6/7K miles and same as yours the front were like new. no i wasnt lowered and it was perfectly normal/even wear but i drive harder than most so temps and speed etc.... wore em out fast.

fronts are still in the shed as spares but i swapped out all 4 for PSS's once the rears were gone. then i trashed those rears in 15k miles lol

When I bought my Z used. The rears was replaced by the dealer before I bought it. It had 8,000 miles on it at the time. Alot of what I read about the OEM tires. Most last less then 10,000 miles.

I got 19k miles out of my stockers. I did autox a few times and a bunch of canyon runs, the BFG sport comps II's have 9k on them and they are just about done. But i was autoxing more this year than last.

I live on the north side... Everything is brand new up here so I don't think it's the roads.

And by within spec I was trying to say it had decent specs after the alignment. I'll post the graph later tonight

I got 17k out my stocks, drove it hard, did an autox and 30 high speed laps at Rockingham. Lowered without camber kits too. Fronts coulda went 20k easy.

Zero toe is what you want. Maybe a touch toe in out back. 1/32" ea. side is what I found I like. Make sure they don't zero you in the spec range. I've had that happen... That's not true zero.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!! You don't want toe out. That will give you snap-over steer. Read some of the threads in the Auto cross/track section.

Zero toe to a hair toe in is what you want.
