Its a really good idea hey. Love the look of the red ones, alot better then some of the powdercoat designs i have seen on the forum!

Provide me with your picture and I will do them up for you.

So i went to a wheel repair specialist in Albion (Queensland, AUS) yesterday and asked if they could paint the stock 18"s a Gloss black and then put the blue pinstripe around the rim and down the spokes like I wanted....

They said they couldnt because they would have to tape it all up and the edges of the blue on the black would look super tacky... So that sucks.

He told me he could do the black gloss paint for $165 each wheel (Which I thought was a bit expensive!?) but said I should try and get custom blue stickers or something like that made up to fit on the rims.
He also said if we do the rims black i should blacken the door handles too... Which is true I guess but I read somewhere on here that they are a real bitch to get off?! Dont really want a rim specialist messing with my doors :S

anyway... interesting concept... 'stickers' on the rims...
Iv never seen it done myself?
Any recommendations?

this looks sick. i have the brilliant silver 370 also and was wondering what the car would look like with the black/silver wheels. could u also do a black/gold and gold/black combo? i want to tint my headlights yellow and tryin to be different, but i still want it to look good. i'm very picky when it comes to customizing (as u can see with the celica i had). thanks.

Can you make the blue part, black? That could give the illusion of a skinny spoke.

boomboom 10-11-2009 02:04 AM

Can someone blackout the sport wheels on a yellow one please? Thank you....with black handles

boomboom 10-11-2009 04:52 PM

my dumb computer will not up-load my pic of my car.Can someone post a pic of a yellow z so bullitt can photo shop black rims (sport model) with black handles?

shadyDR 10-18-2009 01:01 PM

Can you do the same but for a silver z. I would like to see it with Black rims, handle, windows and tail lights. I think it would like good, what do you guys think?

ddvette9 10-18-2009 06:14 PM

+1 Vote for a silver Z with non sport black wheels with the body matched ring around the outside

gromano 11-12-2009 11:29 PM

So.... after my 10,000km service, my Nissan Dealer did a puncture repair on a small nail in my rear right tyre, they dropped the wheel on its face and scratched it up nice, so they are paying for it to be repaired/painted! :)

But iv cchanged my idea again.
Can anyone photoshop a Monterey Blue with non-sport rims (18's) with everything black inside except for the spokes (leave the spokes silver all the way to the tire wall...
Would like to see how that looks.
Perhaps then also add a blue pinstripe running along the highest ridge of the spokes? (This is where they scratched mine!)

i think white with a red lip would look crazy!

Nikon FM 11-13-2009 12:44 PM

^ Would definitely need a PS of that before pulling the trigger..

Nikon FM 11-13-2009 10:35 PM

I just got an estimate for powder coating in gloss black (no red pin stripe).

The set was estimated at $320....seems a bit high to me.

This thread is amazing. +111

I have a brilliant silver 370Z, and would like to see the image below with all black rims with accents of silver. Please photoshop the rim black, then acccent the silver in.

Isnt it a bad idea to powedercoat forged wheels ? I remember reading something about how powdercoating them makes the metal weaker due to the heat that they use to bake the paint.

Nikon FM 12-21-2009 08:06 PM

Pictures coming soon

I have 2 sets of sport wheels. I powder coated one set gloss black and the other gloss white. No pin striping due to quality issues with the powder coater's process..(he didn't like the idea due to his PC tape not being flexible enough). I put Toyo's R888s on the white set for track days and Hankooks on the black set for daily use. I put the track set on and wow I like the white wheels with the black car. As soon as I get the car back form the shop I'll post pics of the track setup.

corner3garage 12-21-2009 08:21 PM

i think it looks good black but, without the blue around the lip

would it be possible to photoshop the same color scheme on the 370z stock rims(non sport model).. I'm thinking of doing it with the stock ones but not sure if it will look as good.

cheers!

could you do the same as the above pic with this one, just with blacked out taillights and red half-spokes? Also, another with blacked-out taillights and yellow calipers?

Thanks!

marcussoori 10-27-2010 01:04 PM

And also with stock color rims and door handles, blacked-out taillights/headlights, and yellow calipers? :)

ThoriumHotdog 10-27-2010 03:57 PM

I missed a spot. :) I prefer the second but I imagine that would be easier to paint than powdercoat.

Those are stock wheels from the 35th Anniversary and 2006+ 350Z.

Stanced370Z 10-28-2010 03:48 PM

I HATE painted stock wheels on any car. I don't understand y people do it. I know a set of aftermarket wheels are expensive but I'd rather leave my wheels stock than painted black. Disgusting. Just my opinion though.

Maybe someone who actually powdercoats can elaborate, but from what I understand the amount of heat used to bake the powdercoat onto the wheel isn't enough to effect the structural integrity of the wheel. Those who have issues likely had powdercoaters who burned the original coating off the wheel with extremely high temps instead of media blasting the coating off. The heat used to bake off the finish is what effects the wheels strength. So just make sure your powdercoater uses another method to get the old finish off.
