I need answers REally fast

The guy thats working on my car, trying to put on the new tires calls me and asks me where the wheel lock is?
What is that?
Where is it?
He says he cant take the tire off without that thingy majigy....

enkei2k 08-07-2014 12:31 PM

you got wheel locks man. get the key for it.

If you got your new, your dealer should have given it to you along with the keys and what not.

Usually its in one of the 2 glove boxes or the center console.

Minsu 08-07-2014 12:32 PM

I bought used, where is the key usually located

Minsu 08-07-2014 12:32 PM

Ahhh kk, damn I'm at work now so I can't even go

Solomatrix 08-07-2014 12:33 PM

Did you have wheel locks on your car? If you did, there is a "key" that is needed to unbolt one of the lugs. Do you know where that key is? If they aren't "special" wheel locks, then you could just pick up a socket that is slightly larger than the lock lug, hammer it on there and then twist the lug off. That's apparently how some thieves get past wheel locks.

Haboob 08-07-2014 12:33 PM

Check the hidden cubby behind the seat maybe?

I bought new and mine came in a white plastic bag. Also check the glove compartment.

it would REALLY suck if the previous owner didn't give you the key to the wheel locks. :owned:

glws.

Minsu 08-07-2014 12:37 PM

They aren't specific to each individual car right? Could I get the wheel locks from another z?

Each key is different. It's like a house key. Nobody should have your set of keys.

MagmaRed370z 08-07-2014 12:39 PM

Try the trunk where the spare is, mine was located there.

That I'm not sure, but I wouldn't put it passed Nissan to do something like that.

Back in the day when I bought wheels for one of my cars from Discount, I bought the "Gorilla Locks" or whatever.

Trouble is, is all of them were the same. Every Discount sold them, nothing was different.

Luckily Discount became aware of this after my wheels were stolen. Full replacement. :D

kenchan 08-07-2014 12:42 PM

tell them to just kill the locks. it's not terribly difficult to remove them without the keys.
get a new set of mcguards.

i dont even use locks on my cars. just a pita.

Zoren 370 08-07-2014 12:43 PM

Its usually attached to the torque breaker wrench!

big daddy 08-07-2014 12:44 PM

I keep mine in the trunk also.

Use to keep mine in the glove box until someone brook in my car to still the wheel lock. Walking out to see your car sitting on blocks is bad enough. Seeing the broken class in the passenger seat and water in the car form the rain was just extra icing on the cake

im not sure where the logic is on this one... even if you put the key in the
trunk, they'll break the glass again before getting into the trunk.

honestly you're better off not using any locks and get yourself an alarm with tilt sensor.

big daddy 08-07-2014 12:50 PM

Simple logic - hope they look in glove box and center and leave.

Can't stop crime - just try to survive it

enkei2k 08-07-2014 01:00 PM

thanks all for letting me know where your wheel locks are guys :stirthepot:

I used to keep my key with my keys. So that way it'll always be with me.

Minsu 08-07-2014 01:01 PM

Thanks guys they found em!!! They were in like a side compartment. Love u guys

MJB 08-07-2014 01:01 PM

If thieves can steal wheels off a car in 5 min with wheel locks and all, I would think a mechanic can get it off as well. OP, you've had your car for how long now and you are just realizing it had wheel locks? Thankfully you never had a flat and attempted to put the spare on. Good luck with everything.

That was the OEM one. I no longer have those lug nuts. :stirthepot:

Okay, so bought new in June, no mention of locks on any invoices nor have I come across a "key". How would I tell if I have locking lug nuts? Oh, and not like the salesman knew much about the car since they picked it up from across state/different dealer...

JARblue 08-07-2014 01:08 PM

phew http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/im...ilies/phew.gif that was a close one OP

Go look at your Z and see if one of the lugs is different from the rest. Also, Mitco posted a picture of them...

Tadpole 08-07-2014 01:36 PM

I have all the keys to get lug nuts off. You can buy a master set online so my advice is to remove them and use regular lug nuts.

If someone wants your wheels and tires they will get them.

Maybe, maybe not. Anti theft measures don't necessarily have to be foolproof to be effective. Sometimes, maybe many times, all you have to do is have a modest measure of theft deterrence to keep yourself from becoming a victim. A lot of theft is opportunistic or not the act of someone willing to go to any length. Just making the theft take a little longer to execute can make the bad guy move on.

One word... Garage. Of course, I am now going to eat crow when I come out to my car in a parking lot and the wheels are gone.

urbanate 08-07-2014 02:54 PM

So are you going to have them reinstall them in the locked or unlocked position once they finish putting your new tires on?
