RE-11 vs S-04.

Need to get some new rears soon. Money is kind of tight right now and currently have RE-11's on right now, which I enjoy having, but wondering if I would notice the difference if I changed to the S-04's? The price difference is 156 dollars per pair. Are the RE-11's 156 dollars better than the RE-11's? I do not track the car but do some "spirited" driving at times. Just looking for opinions and facts if possible.

The S04's are more than capable. I have tracked with the S04's. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is mixing tires. I would get a full set of S04's or get a new rear set of RE11's to finish off the fronts.

wat speedfreek said.

If you are in tune with your vehicle, I would expect you to notice a difference only under "spirited" driving - the RE-11s should perform better than the S-04s. That being said, I agree with speedfreek on both accounts: the S-04s are very capable DD tires (and priced well), and I wouldn't mix tires.

I went with S-04's and wish I had gone with RE-11's. The side wall is noticeably softer than the stock 050's. They are a great DD tire... I didn't love them at the track.

kenchan 07-01-2014 04:03 PM

S04's are NOT softer than the RE050A's... :ugh:

Thanks for the advice guys.

Put a set of s-04's on our Z in Nismo sizing. Drove 3000 miles in a week! (not a joke: from STL to Quebec City, Canada and back) They are great tires and I have 0 complaints.

Also, I was getting 27.5mpg on canadian premium and about 26.2 on US ethanol premium fuel with these tires.

I love my S-04s and am going to get another set when the time comes....

I just recently purchased a set of so4's and am happy with the reduced road noise and a bit softer ride compared to the yoko advance OF tires that came with it new. The front feels a little heavy while steering and a little more dive and float with the s-04's but the trade off with less road noise and comfort are okay. Tires are pretty sticky but will break loose under hard acceleration. Final thought from a price point, they are a very good tire for the daily driver but not sure if they would track well.

make sure to break them in nicely
