Stretched tires

What are some Pros and Cons of running stretched tires?

DEpointfive0 01-21-2014 03:45 AM

Pros... You can be herrafrush... And if I see you I will pray you hit a pothole.

Cons... Everything, less grip, less safe.

Pretty much. There are no pros to people with the correct number of chromosomes. It's all cons. It will handle worse, be unsafe, and broadcast loud and clear to everyone around you that you have no idea what you're doing when it comes to cars.

Wait- there is one "pro". It will allow you to put wheels that don't fit on the car as long as you run moronic levels of camber. So, if that's a plus, then you've got that going for you. I guess.

SouthArk370Z 01-21-2014 09:26 AM

Yep. All show and no go. Doesn't make any sense to put them on a sports car if you expect to drive it like a sports car. If you like the look and don't mind the hit to the handling (ie, a show car), go for it.

:iagree:

Just realized this was in the Nismo thread...really??

Cons: It looks like absolute sh*t and people will make fun of it. :bowrofl:

fuct 01-21-2014 10:44 AM

stock there is a slight stretch on the factory advan tire sizes nissan chose for the nismo rims, and thats the most stretch i would ever go.

Apollo8642 01-21-2014 11:45 AM

How much of a stretch are you talking about, and are you doing it for clearance issues?

One con is when hit a pot hole or something else, you can get a flat via loosing the bead on the tire, damage the tire, and also damage your rim, but that's for more extreme stuff like a 225/40 on a 10.5 inch rim.

Personally I like seeing a wide tire under a car with a nice side wall like a 305/30

Make the car an extension of you, and your personality, and give zero sh!ts about what other poeple think, it's your ride.

jae35 01-21-2014 01:07 PM

Technically if stretching the right rubber it can be done safely..you will sacrifice some grip. Not all tires are stretch friendly due to stiff side walls...watch any formula D this year?

I think it is stupid/ugly looking. Don't be cheap. Remember you have to pay to play, so do it right or don't do it at all. You will get laughed at and a lot of non-ghetto people will think it is extremely ghetto looking, but different strokes for different folks.

For those size rims. If it was me. I would put a 295/35-20 on the front and a 345/30-20 on the rear. Both of those tire are 28.1" tall. But everything depends on the offset.

Chuy 01-21-2014 10:28 PM

Stretching the tire is only usefull for initial turn in thats it nothing more. I love how stretch tire means the hellaflush crowd. Theres people on this forum that run stretched tires, granted they aren't stretched to the point that its questionable. Look at Japan's time attack there are cars still running stretched tires.

I need to stop, and remember that this Z crowd only likes the popular ideas and that we lack any original ideas.

Being safe and taking, for example, tire racks recommendations on tire size=wheel width, isn't the popular idea, it's the intelligent one. Want to be original? Do it with something that doesn't cost your life or my family's if you have a blow out if the highway next to me! If the crash doesn't kill you, my sig will.

Liquid_G 01-21-2014 10:52 PM

So much butthurt in this thread.

Sorry if stretched tires aren't your thing. Thanks for the helpful feedback.

If you look at tire size recommendations from Tire Rack for example they give you a range. Within that range you can stretch tires, or get to big of a tire size and you can do the same thing with a stretched tire break the bead and pop a tire.

Terrible that you would shoot someone over an accident.

It's not stretched within that range. Its normal. Hence that's why they listed it within that range. Unless I'm missing something this is about a "stretched" thread. Hence not within the range. For example the OP listed a 255/30/20 on an 11" wheel. Thats 1 inch over whats normal/safe.

Being an idiot is not an accident! They did **** on purpose for whatever reason and hurt my family because of it. I'd expect anyone to do the same. I'll smack a bitch doing makeup or texting too.

Chuck33079 01-22-2014 06:57 AM

And now the stretched tire supporters come out of the woodwork. It's not "different strokes for different folks", it's "your idiotic choice has made the vehicle unsafe and you're putting everyone around you at risk so you can look cool to people who have no idea how things work."

Go ahead, hit a bump and see what happens when a tire debeads at speed. Try to only kill yourself.

It's not that we don't like original ideas (since when has hellaflush been original?), it's that we don't like stupid ideas.

synolimit 01-22-2014 07:08 AM

And FYI, everyone comparing race cars to street cars, its a poor example! You don't drive a fixed seat, race harness, roll caged, stretched tire drift car to the grocery store with pot holes and speed bumps where mommy can hit you in the mini van and you smash your skull all over everything and die.

Chuck33079 01-22-2014 07:10 AM

Plus the race teams that use stretched tires do a little more homework than "It looks hella tight on my slammed whip yo."

G37Sam 01-22-2014 07:14 AM

What's even funnier is they refer to them as being "aggressive".

Plus what are they using? I don't think its a cheap *** v12.

Chuck33079 01-22-2014 07:23 AM

It's only going to get worse as the cost of used 370s come down. Pretty soon it'll be like the 350s where for every one nice one, there's 25 clapped out buckets slammed on poorly fitting wheels with stretched tires with some retard behind the wheel. When you see that guy, there's only one thing to tell him- "I'd like a #2 with a large fry and a diet coke."

Nope they are brand new

Sh0velMan 01-22-2014 07:37 AM

People tend to forget that they are driving a 3000+ pound missile when behind the wheel.

And by "tend to forget" I mean "never knew or cared in the first place because drivers ed in this country blows donkey *** and the parents putting their little moron behind the wheel for the first time don't stress the seriousness of what they are doing every time they start the car".

I just thought I'd abbreviate a little tho.

Sh0velMan 01-22-2014 07:41 AM

And as much as I love my kid, when the day comes to put her behind the wheel, I'm going to tell her flat out:

The only thing worse than you doing something stupid and killing yourself would be you doing something stupid and killing someone else.

Tough love or some ****.

I cringe as the 09s are creeping to under $20K now. Here's to hoping the next Z goes for $50K so I'm not put in the same class as the 'tards that think this type of **** is cool.

Ghostvette 01-22-2014 08:51 AM

ibtl.... for what it's worth. :)

coolvans1988 01-22-2014 11:38 AM

Yeah i'm seeing a lot of the 350z being slammed, heck even my wife says it looks really stupid. But probably in 2-3 years from now, we will be seeing the 370z merged to that trend. =/ I wish instagram had a dislike button on those 370z/350z pages.

DEpointfive0 01-22-2014 12:43 PM

Aaaand it's time for this thread to close... OP got the info he's looking for plus a mouthful...
