My 2013 sport package wheels are... peeling??
2 Attachment(s)
I just got my 2013 370z like 2 weeks ago and am loving it. However, a couple of days ago, I noticed something strange on my wheels. Upon closer inspection, I saw that they were PEELING?? wtf?? I thought the gunmetal color was the ACTUAL color of the sport package wheels, but it seems like it is just a film covering the rays? Can anyone chime in on this?
I'm going into the dealership asap about this. I'm very irritated about this and it's very lame that Nissan did this... |
keep us informed...this isn't good news. Hopefully its not a major flaw on all '13 sport wheels

I called the dealer earlier about it and they said they had no idea and just to bring the car in. I found a couple of minor peels on the other wheels too... So right now, I have 3 wheels with peels and 1 wheel that looks awesome. |

2 wheels I spoke of. One seems brighter

From the picture it looks like protective film. There is often quite a bit on a new car.
Our used 2010 still had film on the aluminum dead pedal for example when we got it in 2012...no one noticed it. Well...*I* noticed it. It had a red hue...so don't know how others missed it :) If the film is subtle and well adhered, its easy to miss. Some dealers are far dumber then they appear to be. - b |
I only want to say its protective covering because the rims should be silver, and your rims look like they are a few colors, not uniform at all...
Sorry about the wheels, but welcome to the group and good luck!!! (Come visit us at a meet soon) |

its protective film.. the wheels probably come completely covered off the boat and when they pulled it off some of it got stuck... just pull the rest of it off
see look how the GTRs come http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/427...5134455060.jpg |
OP thats the protective wrapping they put the wheels in from the factory that is peeling off, i know cause when i received my 2011 i had to peel the rest of that stuff off as the dealer missed a few pieces of it on my rims.
|
Is it clear or silver? If it's clear, it's the protective wrap. If it's silver, you've got problems.

yeah, looks like dark film starting to peel off
|
I agree that it looks like a film. It's just weird that it's the exact color of your wheels. It's probably fine just to peel off on your own but I'd still have the dealer look at it and have them take it off in case it causes any damage or discoloration.
|
Yeah, it's definitely NOT a protective cover. My rear driver side wheel looks IMMACULATE. I have minor peels on the other wheels as well. If it were a protective cover, of course I would've just peeled it off..
I honestly think its a film to make the wheels "gunmetal"..... |

Yeah, those 2013 wheels are suposed to be gun metal. I can't believe Nissan just put a thin "film" over the silver wheels though. Lame...
It seems like there's other small bubbles or something on the wheels. I would like to know how the dealership handles this... |
In all honesty, I think this makes me happier, as I like the silver finish better.
The gunmetal had grown on me, but if I can peel it off... oh my! :excited::excited: But yeah, I'd take it to the stealership and see what they have to say about it. |
I'll have some time to go to the dealership this coming week. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'm hella disappointed in Nissan trying to make the wheels something that they're not by putting some flimsy film on it.
|
What I was told if that those wheel protectors and the curb guard film are not removed after delivery they can burn onto the rims from the heat.

Im with the others.. Just pick one and peel the s*#t off and see what happens. If it is not a protective cover you will still get new wheels for it being that easy to take off.
|
OP any news???

We've been falling in love with the wrong color!
|
Please tell me they're still gunmetal!
|
I better check the rims when my 2013 arrives, thanks for the heads up!
|
Yes, they're GUNMETAL!! it was just leftover protective film. They didn't remove the protective cover carefully and left some excess pieces on some of the wheels. Don't worry, wheels are still sexy hahah

Thanks for the info guys. I have a 2012 370Z, and two of the wheels have some flaking, and two look perfect. Is it the protective coating that is flaking off, or are the rims defective?
Should I have the dealership replace them all? |
Flaking? like white residue? Depends on how often you are near the beach/ocean since I see you're in CA. corrosion could be your problem. Pics would hell much more. Here in Hawaii, EVERYTHING is corroded unless you wash your car constantly.

Wow, this was all suspenseful and its just the protective coating!!
This is why i had the dealer NOT touch my car and i took everything off the day of delivery myself... |
