Drive your car. Problem solved.

Josh@STILLEN 06-25-2009 09:16 PM

I think he's referring to the hubs.. if I'm correct, it's just because they aren't coated..

You could consider some aftermarket coated rotors, or you could pull them off and paint them yourself..

:inoutroflpuke: not only did he paint the pad surface, but he has nearly solid wheels that you can't even see them behind anyway!! BRILLIANT! :nutswinger:

Yes, if you do decide to paint your rotors. PLEASE do not paint any of the surface that comes in contact with the pad.

Mike 06-26-2009 09:08 AM

you can paint that surface, it will scrape off the first time you use the brakes, and leave a perfect transition to the unswept area. You don't want to heavily paint that area, but a little overspray is no problem.

Caravanshaka 06-26-2009 09:10 AM

ya, a little overspray can probably be wiped out by the pad...but I don't know if I would want paint particles embeded in the surfaces that are stopping my car from hitting a brick-wall.

Mike, have you powdercoated rotors at all? I'd be interested to see results of powdercoating everything but the pad contact surface.

yes I have, but I don't think I have pictures. With powder, I never get it on the swept area, as I'm pretty sure the powder would gunk up the pads. I use ceramic coating on my own rotors, as that is something else that I do, although the nissan ones are still stock.

nogoodname 06-26-2009 10:30 PM

just paint the center hub part with those rust paint or something

Mike 06-26-2009 10:32 PM

oh, I do have a pic, but its of a removable hub.

forget this and just paint the center...lol

Nice choice of brake system.. :)

With a full BBK.. you do have the option of separating the aluminum hat since it's a 2-piece rotor.. Calipers take a little more effort, but definitely doable.

Can't miss it!

If you are referring to the green ones, they belong to a 350z owner that we both sponsor!

Josh@STILLEN 06-26-2009 10:48 PM

Absolutely.. no missing that kit.. It's pretty wild, and the end result is fantastic!

Mike 06-26-2009 10:52 PM

thanks! It is some car!

Josh@STILLEN 06-26-2009 10:55 PM

and for those that don't know.. you dont' want anyone powdercoating a caliper.. you need someone who knows the ins and outs of doing it right.. and everything I've seen that Mike has done, has been spot on.

I haven't been a personal customer, nor has STILLEN done anything directly (we don't typically go wild with projects, we build show cars that are about function, and what can be ordered from us), but I've heard nothing but good things from Mike, and as you can see, has done AP Racing with no probs.. I would recommend you all go that route.. ha!

:)

Thanks Josh! I have powdercoated now over 900 sets of calipers, mostly for Corvettes, but pretty much a little of everything.

Here is a pic of my old 350, which back in the day, Dean told me that Steve really like the pics of!
